Can you guys help me put him in perspective? I'd say I'll put him up with Jordan and Payton as the most electric athlete at his position. Those guys dominated the ball more obviously. But for what Hester does - my god. Not just Chicago, but any player, at a position, for any team - he's the best of all time at what he does.

As a return guy I'll use a quote I heard once from the great George Halas when describing Gale Sayers.

"His like will never be seen again."

How many touchdown returns does he have now ? 6 ? That's incredible for a second year player.

What sucks is that teams won't be as stupid as KC was today, and not give this guy chance after chance to beat them.

8 if you count the Super Bowl.

See, thats whats great. Even if they kick away from him we'll get it at the 40 on kick offs and great position on punts too.

I said teams will have to kick to him in close games becasue of this in my "Hester prediction" thread. They'll have to take the chance.

Along with Mike Brown and Brian Urlacher, he will be one of those very unique Bears player of the past 5 years ion which you will probably never ever see a player like him in the next 50 yrs.

I don't think people apreciate Hester for his smarts. Yes, it's the quick twitch and blinding spead. But what I love is how he sets them up when he receives the ball. He's so smart. He'll tippy toes one way and boom- hits the hole he wanted to from the start.

I love watching this guy. He is really brilliant. And a kick off return is such a beautiful play when the return guy has smarts, moves and speed.

Thats where we cant agree, my friend. He is an incredible KR and one of the best pure athletes in the game right now, but he is dumber than rocks.

I agree. When he does do interviews he seems genuinely happy and humble. I give him the benefit of the doubt because I like him.

He has excellent field vision. I can't believe teams punt to him. If I were another team I'd give the Bears offense the ball on the my own 40 before punting to him.

It's hard to put him in the proper light because Chicago (and the NFL, for that matter) hasn't ever seen anything like him. He's more like a lights out closer in baseball. Somebody that is a very small part of the game but has a tremendous impact on the way it is played/managed. Devin Hester has Mariano Rivera potential.

I agree - probably haven;t seen a returner like him since say Dante Hall a few years ago before KC ruined him by putting him at wideout too much.

Devin Hester is the best kick returner of all time, IMO.

His ability to make the first person miss, and to out run the rest is uncanny. I've never seen anything like it. Most returners get a couple good blocks and take it to the house; Hester regularly beats a guy and takes it to the house. In my mind, there's simply no one to compare him to. I really think he's in a league of his own.

The media lied to me, they said he was so dumb he'd forget how to return kicks if he even stepped on the field on offense.

Remember these guys: Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, Tim Brown, Raghib Ismail. I'm not arguing with you Nas, I just wanted mention these guys to put in perspective as far as Hester's ability to make people miss.

The ball he fielded at the 5 with one foot out was a pretty smart move. I don't give a shit if he can't conjugate verbs or splits his infinitives, he knows his football. That was a smart play.

But according to Dan McNeil this game is too complex for Devin Hester. He's not working on a doctorate. He's working on a touchdown. F off Mac.

No. He knew exactly what he was doing because he never tried to run. He just stopped cuz he knew that was required to get it at the 40.

It's a very smart play cuz it could squeek inside and kick back.

He caught it then looked down. I could almost hear him thinking, "Aw shit. What the fuck do I do now?" I'm sure that he thought they'd be getting the ball right there.

Would it have made a difference if he ran anyway since he began out-of-bounds?
