By Teddy Greenstein, Tribune reporter

7:00 p.m. CDT, May 10, 2014

Jordan Lynch celebrated the news on Twitter by posting: “BEARDOWN!!!!”

In other words, the former Northern Illinois quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist will get a shot with the Chicago Bears.

Lynch's agent, Cliff Brady, confirmed to the Tribune on Saturday that Lynch is signing a free agent contract with the Bears. Lynch said last week that he is open to switching positions – perhaps to running back or defensive back – to make the NFL.

The Mount Carmel product said Chicago was the only team he worked out for individually – and that he has never been to a Bears game.

“Whatever I can do to help a team out, I'm willing to do,” he told the Tribune’s Shannon Ryan. “Whatever I can do to get my foot in the door. I'll run down the field on special teams.”

Is he open to sideline reporting?

Bowen just creamed his stonewashed jeans with the return of the white safety.

I'm all in favor of anything that will irritate Bernstein.

I hope they keep him at QB. I don't see how he could do anything else.

After the Super Bowl years a guy I know signed with the Bears. It was the classic, local kid, feel good story. They did a tribune and a sun times story on him.

Brett Novoslesky from Penn. Played WR/TE. didnt have much of a chance. They guaranteed him 2 preseason games $1000 and he could keep his unform and helmet. All the TE's end up getting hurt in the preseason and he makes the team. Got cut after game 1, then resigned for the final 7 games. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/N/NovoBr00.htm

Then played 6 more full seasons on special teams basically for Minnesota. Had 14 catches in his career. One on a fake FG on Monday night for a TD and Musburger had a real tough time pronouncing the name.

So, he could stick and be around the league for a long time. Could be the next matt Bowen.

Pretty cool. I hope he can find a roster spot.

For anybody who can draw lines, this Biggie story along with another post in the Billy Cub has given us some clarity.

If he has "inside info" that he swears doesn't come from his FFL mates Mac, Jurko and Grimace, it comes from Silvy.

Lynch is listed as a RB on the Bears website. This kid is versatile and could play RB, FB, TE, KR, PR, and maybe S.

Amazing. The kid can play six positions and didn't get drafted. Is he gay too?

It is a good story and I am glad the Bears are giving him a chance, but the reality is there is a very low chance the kid even makes the team.

Good for everyone. What do the Bears have to lose? And maybe they find the next Wes Welker or some shit.

Trestman told Lynch that there were 10 things he could do with him...I stopped at 6. It would be impossible for Lynch to be a worse goal line back than Bush was...and I doubt he could be worse than Hester was at KR and PR last year. I hope he makes the team.

You do realize coaches exaggerate to get players they want, right?

You really do go way too far out of your way to be confrontational with me.

Practice squad this year.

I don't see any reason he cannot be Danny Woodhead and I think Trestman is the guy to see that potential

They had to come up with an extra sixth column on the depth-chart to put Lynch in.

He's got a whole column to himself.
