4 game set.

Good job from Cubs offense so far.

Olt's homer would not be a homer in a decent chunk of ballparks.

So Olt is on pace to hit about .200 with 36 HRs and 86 RBIs and that's if he continues to only get 2.4 ABs/game.

If he average 3 ABs/game the rest of the year, he's at 43/102.

Olt has amassed 8 HRs. But with no other discernible tools and contact skills best described as, Kingmanesque, he's posted an 85 wRC+ to date and has been worth -0.1 fWAR.

Olt has a .170 BABIP, which is either a sign of terrible luck or weak contact. a 9.3% line drive rate (!), and a 33.7% strikeout rate. If it doesn;t leave the yard, it looks ugly.

I don't accept your new-fangled math.

43/102

Since this team fucking blows let's just see how far we can take this Olt lunacy

He can't hit a homer every 11 at bats and nothing else. Either the homers stop or the hits start

I've actually heard that Bryant's stance is Kingmanesque.

Either way this team needs a Kingman like presence. Guy was a fucking stud.

I don't like his stance and I think he will eventually have to change it. He's too crouched and spread out. He's going to swing and miss regardless so he may as well stand more upright and closed to take full advantage of his strength and athleticism.

Adam Dunn had made 30 million last 2 years doing exactly that.

Did you not see him in left field over the last week?

I mean...he needs to play. For sure.

But he can't be rewarded for his bullshit outfield antics. He has, by himself, given up multiple runs in the last week by misplaying flyballs, singles to the outfield, and missing cut-offs / overthrowing the catcher.

edit: Bonerface is safe for sure.

Wont get better at outfield sitting on the bench. Team sucks, let him learn while they suck.

It isn't skill. It is a lack of effort or care.

Castro gets murdered here in Chicago when he has trouble with tough plays. Plays and throws that are difficult, but possible.

Lake has let how many run of the mill singles right in front of him get to the outfield wall this season? Three after tonight, by my count. LF is quite a bit easier to play than SS.

There is no excuse.

edit: God...Bonifacio too.

Worst defensive outfield ever. The Cubs have two second basemen in the outfield...has a team ever tried three? It would be entertaining. Too bad Soriano still isn't here. He could play the other corner opposite Lake.

So strange.

Don't stop now boys!

The Cubs have scored 28 combined runs on 5/8 and 5/12.

They've only scored 22 runs between the other 9 games in May.

edit: 29 runs...

Lake is a little bit different than Castro. He came up as a SS. You have to expect some hiccups. But yeah the throws are inexcusable.

Again - there is a difference between lack of skill in the outfield and lack of effort in the outfield.

He hasn't played the middle infield since 2012.

He played 6 games in the outfield before they called him up last year

And like I said, some of it is inexcusable, but some of it is them not getting him ready for his job.

Would you be able to cleanly field 4 hop singles hit straight to you?

It has been a few years since I've played baseball...but the answer is yes for me.

Offensively I think if he played everyday he'd put up numbers similar to Castro . I think he will get better defensively. Gotta give him a chance so we can find out though. He should not be platooning.

Agree on playing time, but I doubt he ever hits as well as Castro has (excepting 2013).

Why does it always have to be negative. Why can't the Cubs fans just enjoy a nice blowout win?

I see him between .270 and .280, 15 to 20 HR , 30 doubles. I think thats about where Castro ends up,with less HR more doubles. Like I said, similar not better.

I hope for more than that with Castro.

Because its been a long, long time since that has happened.

Wood became the fist Cubs starter to pitch six innings, allow more than 3 runs, and still get a Win since Matt Garza did it on June 16, 2011.
I know you are not going to get a ton of wins giving up 4 or 5 runs over 6 innings (johndanks), but still you'd figure it would have happened at least a couple of times over the last ~430 games the Cubs have played.

Lake & Olt should play everyday. I thought that was the plan starting the season for Lake but I guess his horrible defense might be hurting him.
