funny, all the criticism of Bernstein, a lot of it warranted, but most sports talkers say nothing at all. Nothing to criticize. How do you criticize Waddle and Silvy other than them being boring. They rarely take a strong stance about anything. Nobody is a "bad guy" in their world.

BJ Armstrong is in Silvy's.

If you agree that a lot of the criticism of Bernstein is warranted, then what point are you trying to make here?

Wow, he's really taking a stand there.

What so every post has to have a point? Should I start sorting through yours?

Bernstein is interesting/bad/good/hypocritical/annoying. People love to hate him.

But if you're such a fan of his, I don't know why you get aggravated that people hate him. It's what he wants. It gets ratings. Though he's been so off-the-wall lately that it's not even entertaining or worth listening to just to hate him.

I think you are right Hatchet that good/bad or whatever Bernsie is a bit different in that he takes some point or stance or tries to be smart whatever that is to him. Some times that is ok to listen to. You also mention the thread needing to have a point. I think sports talk and/or boards for me should be just shooting the shit having opinions fly and laughing or getting mad etc. Bernsie kills me when he takes the smart radio too far for too long. The perfect example of this for me was PSU. A day or two or a show when something truly big happened in that case would have been fine. But on and on and on was not fun nor smart radio to me.

I certainly don't care what anyone thinks of him. If anything I'm wasting time at work. What I really cannot fathom, however, is how anyone can be a fan of ESPN.

All this talk about BernSTINE being "typically correct" with his views....like he's some sort of visionary genious.

What views? Pedophilia is bad? Child rape is bad? You need to score more points than your opponent to win? Advanced metrics are useful? Lebron is good?

Too funny.

Yeah, I agree, but what about the ratings? They were kicking ass then, no?

I would say since the beginning of the year B&B haven't really been on one of their "crusades." Maybe it has hurt them.

Chet is the thesis. North is the antithesis. Dan is the synthesis.

Now, now, Silvy did chase Chairman Reinsdorf off his air with a tough question. And I'm sure what ever reprehensible deed Jerry might commit, bernstein would equivocate about it. Sure, ESPN has different standards and that show is informed by Waddle's aspirations to Bristol.

WSCR caller: a racist who supports child rape, believes pitcher wins and RBI are meaningful, and thinks "McCowen" is better than Cutler.

WMVP caller: Elmhurst Steve.

Any program director knows that hate radio has a shelf life. Listeners eventually just find other shows to listen to.

But Rush hates and screams at Dems/liberals and his listeners are treated like loyal followers. Bernsie does it to his OWN listeners except for three.

How many of those 15 years have they owned their time slot?

I don't know. They've consistently done very well for themselves. Kind of shocking really considering how they try to alienate people.

We don't need two milquetoast sports stations in town. One is enough. If you like that, great. Bully for you.

Not for the decade or so going against Mc Neil. I don't think they did that all in the midday time slot either but I could be wrong

This.
Yes, MJH beat B&B for many books. They were a ratings juggernaut and B&B took a while to catch up following their move to afternoons. B&B did close the gap and ultimately beat them in a few books beginning in late 2008. After that they were pretty much neck & neck...not the complete beat-down that some seem to believe.
