We were back this weekend for a wedding. I had almost forgotten how great the food is in Chitown. The beefs, the dogs, the pizza, and even the plate-sized tenderloins... it's all amazing. I've been to pretty much every state, and there is no food like Chicago food.

I hear you buddy. Every time I come for a visit I plan out where I am eating each meal at ahead of time.

Yup. It may lack some of the wide international variety you get in a place like Manhattan but in terms of city specific food there isn't a better place I've been.

I'm sure I mentioned this before but when I moved out here I started looking for italian beef places because I figured this was another area of a high concentration of Italians. It was then that I discovered that italian beef is a Chicago invention.

We lived in Arlington Texas for a couple of years in the late 1980's. We didn't realize how great the food was in Chicago until we moved there. No good Pizza, Hot Dogs, Italian Beefs, Gyros.
And now I don't eat any of that stuff.

Agree with all these posts. It really is easy to take for granted if you grew up around here and didn't travel much.

Same here. Living in CT, the first time we went to NY, I was hoping to get one. No luck, of course. I was shocked. You also can't get tenderloin sandwiches, which seems odd to me.

Also, my pregnant wife, who is basically a vegetarian who occasionally eats chicken, was with me at Al's on Friday. She broke down and ate a beef for the first time in probably 10 years.

They're building a Hardee's at Euclid/Plum Grove in Rolling Meadows. Could a Hardee's revolution be on the way?

A pregnant woman is only as vegan as her options.

True that. When they say they are putting something on a burger they mean it. My fav when they do it is the A-1 burger.
I even miss the Polish Sausage places at the expressway.
Out here they do a pork tenderloin instead of a breaded steak, not the same plus when I asked for red sauce on it they looked at me like I was crazy.

You can get some decent international stuff-Indian,Vietnamese,Korean,Polish. I still am looking for good mideastern food. I love the African stuff when it can be found.

Chitown is for tourists and lazy beer commercial writers. Never tell anyone outside of the Family what you are thinking again.
