They can save some money to put towards pitching later in a pitching deep draft.

I like it better than the OF from Oregon St

I am curious whether they project him as a C or OF. If C then it makes even more sense

1B or DH more like.

Scouts aren't even bashful about it ... one report calls him "bad-bodied"

So how much is a pick based on signability?

Unbelievable luck for the White Sox. If they get him signed quickly he could help with the playoff push in September.

Boras is his agent, I believe. So I wouldn't expect a quick signing.

LHP Carlos Rodon, NC State

Rodon came into the spring as not just the consensus top prospect in the draft, but as arguably the best college pitching prospect since Stephen Strasburg was drafted in 2009. An inconsistent spring has hurt his stock but only just a bit, obviously. At his best, Rodon sits in the mid-90s with his fastball and has a devastating mid-to-high-80s slider. The slider is the best individual pitch in the entire draft. Rodon has big, workhorse frame (listed at 6-foot-3 and 235 lbs.) but isn’t the greatest athlete, so his delivery can fall out of whack and his command is great. The fastball/slider combination gives him ace potential, but Rodon is not the slam dunk frontline guy he was believed to be as recently as four months ago.

C/1B Kyle Schwarber, Indiana

He’s big and powerful enough that he was being recruited by some Big Ten schools to play linebacker before ultimately deciding on baseball. He may have to shift from catcher, though he has improved his defense since joining Indiana. Hitting-wise, he’s the real deal, drawing more walks than strikeouts and hitting for power to every field. With him as the lineup anchor, Indiana has had its best team in school history two straight seasons.

Hawg, curious what you think of the Brewers draft so far.

I really like what they have done.

Wow Hawgaroo I might be a Brew Crew fan in a few years. Two of my favorite players in the draft.

I really like what they did, I am not sure about the pitcher in the 1st round as I did see to much on him, but to get the players they got with the next 2 picks is pretty good. Now, can they get them signed, that will be the real question.

I like what they did too. Monte Harrison is the key. He has a scholarship to play football at Nebraska so that means the Brewers can spread out his bonus over 5 years. He put out a really big number so it still may not be enough to sign all three but it will be close.

What do you know on the kid from Hawaii? I know his fastball was clocked at 97 at Miller Park and his slider at 88-89, but I just have not heard anything on this kid. Those are some damn eye popping numbers for a 18 year old kid and they want him to be a starter.

The Brewers signed Monte Harrison for $1.8M. About $700,000 over slot.

The Astros agreed with Brady Aiken on a $6.5M signing bonus. That's about $1.4M under slot.

Saw the Blue Jays drafted both the Ace Pitcher and Catcher from Lemont. I winder if they will be able to pry them away from LSU?

Apparently he couldn't find anything on Google.

They also drafted Tanner Houck from downstate. They'll save some money from Pentecost and Hoffman. I think they can sign two but not all three.

The Twins and SS Nick Gordon agreed on a $3.851M signing bonus. The deal is exactly slot value.

I read the Brewers are going to sign their 1st round pick today for about $800k below slot value. I am pretty shocked they got these top 3 picks signed, and happy.

I saw that too. I can't believe Medieros signed for that far under slot. That was a great draft strategy by the Brewers to get three high ceiling players in their system.

Congratulations to our 2014 signing under slot value champions! Better luck next year over slot value losers!
