I love when FF jumps in and changes the criteria of a discussion and then someone needs to backtrack and explain to him why he is wrong.

PECOTA projected Rizzo as the single largest improvement in MLB per their projections. If he is exceeding the numbers they projected at this point, I will go out on a limb and say thats a very accurate prediction.

PECOTA doesnt predict where a player will be on June 1, July 1, etc. but if Rizzo continues to improve on this pace he will probably be the single most improved player per PECOTA stats, which is what they predicted.

That is not only a very good prediction, but to name one player in all of baseball as the the one who makes the single biggest improvement is a pretty accurate prediction.

I do love the FF reasoning though.

PECOTA was wrong because Rizzo is doing better than they projected.

Thats some classic stuff there!

But you stated

I doubt many did.

I then said you, yes, Brick was wrong as PECOTA projected not only an improvement, but the single biggest WAR improvement of any player in MLB.
Once again, I didn't say that no one was an improvement from Rizzo coming. I said that there weren't many people who saw this massive an improvement coming, and that includes PECOTA who did not predict anything close to his current numbers either.

You seem to be acting like I said that no one predicted Rizzo would improve. This is not true. What I said was pretty clear.

The simple point here is that very few people, including those behind PECOTA, saw this level of improvement coming. Simple and to the point.

If you saw it and predicted it then bump the post and I'll congratulate you on a pretty amazing prediction.

OK you are correct again. Anthony Rizzo is doing something NOT MANY expected.

And assuming you are correct about Rizzo exceeding his PECOTA projections, which are PECOTAS largest improvement of any single player, then Steve Stone is wrong on the fact of Abreu being "FAR SUPERIOR"

Which side are you taking?

Rizzo improving and Abreu being "FAR SUPERIOR" are not mutually exclusive.

However, as of today, Abreu is not far superior to Rizzo.

And I don't think he ever will be far superior.

Both teams have very good 1B going forward.

I wonder what pecota saw last year to predict such a huge improvement, I didn't think rizzo would be nearly this good..especially with little protection around him..should be interesting to see what he does when the wind is blowing out the next 10 weeks .

Anyone pay for an account? Interested as well, but I'm not sure they do a full write up... May only be the line.

Also, obviously regression is possible (likely?) so their predictions may be more accurate over the full season.

I would think that Abreu will be the DH for the Sox next year.

We'll have a much better picture at the end of the year. If you have faith in Rizzo to continue like he is then you would have no worries about that.

Jose appears to have Soriano Syndrome. Slider away = automatic out.

30.1% K rate. 6.1% BB rate.

He adjusted to ML pitching faster then they adjusted to him. Now they made their adjustments and we are seeing him exposed.

I wouldn't say exposed. His HR pace wasn't sustainable. He'll still easily whack over 30. But there is a resemblance of a poor man's Dunn. That's not bad given the price paid.

What's astounding is Stone's comments. The former Cy Young winner is supposedly an expert. He haughty tone drips with douchebaggy-ness. Yet, he couldn't be anymore wrong. This is why I'm on team Hawk.

But one is trending up* and the other is trending down.*

Rizzo* has a 1.182* OPS* in his last 10* games.*
Abreu* has a .718* OPS* in his last 10* games.*

Rizzo makes adjustments.* Abreu has adjustments made against him.*

*SO FAR

Heard these gems from Stoney over the weekend while watching the Sox play the Halo's

"Jose Abreau is a 5 tool player"

Mike Trout is a 4.5 tool player...he just doesn't have a strong arm"

So based on those comments I am safe to conclude Abreau is SUPERIOR to Trout?

If Jose really is a 5 tool guy move him to center field or third base... put Keyser out of his misery and put him in left and get rid of DeAza. I mean come on he can run like Trout, field like Trout, hit like Trout, has power like Trout and even has a better arm.... MVP...book it.

He is certainly the only first baseman in town putting up MVP type numbers right meow.

Stone sounded bad to me the other day for the first time ever. Sad. He was sort of mumbling and contradicting himself on the development of players.

He's still one of the best

Liriano made Rizzo look silly early in the season.

Tonight Rizzo gets 2 run HR off him.
