No. I have zero confidence in brewers.

Reds are better than they have played.

You guys should still win division, but have to start playing better At some point.

And then you have to deal with the 30 and 5 run the cubs will be going on

1 year and 1 day after he last appeared in a MLB game, Jaime Garcia has returned.

He was only a 5-6 inning pitcher in his prime, but he can really shut a team down. I hope he still has the same stuff he had before. Perhaps he can become an effective long-man or reliever if need be.

He's going into a stacked rotation now because of injuries to Kelly and Lyons.

Welcome back, Jaime.

Wainwright looks to be on...made Hamilton look stupid (not that it's really all that hard it seems) and Philips seemed to have no clue at the plate against him either.

The fans in Cincy apparently have never seen someone hit a ball to just shy of the warning track in left field...

Matt Holliday showing great hustle on a deep fly ball to left field that he thought was a home run...wasn't even to first base when the ball hit the ground.

Meanwhile, Matt Adams continues to show off his opposite field skills.

Nothing like getting the lead-off hitter on base, only to force one of your best hitters to try to bunt him over and end up getting nothing out of it.

Nice to see the lefty specialist walk one lefty and hit another.

Now Matheny is having the lefty specialist intentionally walk a lefty to load the bases and face a switch hitter...what the actual fuck?

Oscar Taveras time about to begin in StL. Word from a source in Memphis is that he is on his way to the majors. #STLCards

Taveras was hitting .325/.373/.524 for Memphis, with 7 home runs in 209 plate appearances and a 132 wRC+.

Oscar is said to have uncanny eye-hand coordination and has an ability to barrel the ball, has often been comped as a left-handed Vladimir Guerrero. His 12.7% strikeout rate is ridiculously low for a man with a .199 ISO and an .897 OPS.

Not in the same league as Griffey Jr or Will Clark, but that is a pretty swing.

You're talking some of the most aesthetically pleasing swings in the game, but yeah, Oscar's swing is a bit more violent. He's thought to have the hit tool of Clark and the power tool of Griffey.

I realize you are kidding around here, but I don't see any big trades happening between these teams.... in fact I don't recall too many at all since the Brock/Broglio theft/fiasco

I think what also makes the left handed swing look so pretty, is the follow through. It's similar to golf swings. A left handed swinger insticnctively knows he has a fraction of a few seconds head start out of the box... a right handed hitter doesn't have that luxury.

With the 27th pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, the Cardinals select RHP Luke Weaver out of Florida State.

Some guy, on some website wrote:
RHP Luke Weaver, Florida State

No relation to Jeff and Jered Weaver, Luke’s whole is greater than the sum of his parts. The wiry 6-foot-2, 170 lb. right-hander lives in the 89-92 mph with his fastball, backing it up with two good offspeed pitches in his slider and changeup. Weaver draws rave reviews for his competitiveness and mound presence, so scouts like him more than his stuff suggests they would. He is the first FSU right-hander to be drafted in the first round since Nick Stocks in 1999.

It happens. Pretty common, i guess i'm sensitive to it from reading it mis-spelled so many times.

So Oscar (he needs some sort of nickname; Carlos Martinez is already "The Tsunami") is sporting a rather pedestrian .189/.225/.297 triple-slash over his first 40 MLB plate appearances... .231 wOBA and 43 wRC+.

Let's look at a few other numbers here. Here comes the SSS caveat as it's best not to draw too much of anything out of such a small number, especially with rate stats that often take years to normalize out the wild fluctuations of chance.

OT has a book (as it were) that says he possesses elite contact skills. Fangraphs' swinging-strike rate (SwStr%) has OT at an absurd 2.5%. Essentially, at pitches in the zone he is literally making contact with almost everything he swings at. Taveras has come up empty on just 2.5% of his swings. FYI the MLB non-pitcher SwStr% is 9.1%, over 3x as many whiffs than Oscar is incurring.

Taveras has done nothing to disprove the scouting reports indicating that he has an innate and elite skill at barreling the baseball. MLB non-pitchers have made contact 79.7% of the time this year. Taveras has done so 92.4% of the time.

All of this confirms the eye test I have seen watching the games I have been able to view. He basically went about a week smoking the ball right at people.

This kid needs to play every day... and with Matt Adams returning to a power-starved lineup (Big City has homered in 3 straight games since his return) and Allen Craig starting to look like Allen Craig, Professional Hitter, the best place for Oscar to do this is in Memphis.

Good to see last night that Tony Larussa's ways have made their way out to Arizona.
