What are your tales of ordering food from one of the trucks downtown?

I find the results to be inconsistent and the price not to reflect the lack of investment in bricks and mortar.

That aside, yesterday at lunch a co worker brought me a mac and cheese with bacon sandwich served on texas toast. It was fantastic but was probably enough carbs for the week. I couldn't even eat dinner when I got home because I still felt full.

They should roll you back in the water before you dry out.

Yeah, I know. Luckily I had already run 4.5 miles that morning so I could take on the block of food.

was it from Cheesie's ??

i don't often have occasion to frequent them but there were several at Riot Fest last month...both the ones I went too- Cheesies (grilled cheese obviously, i had one that was supposed to be like a jalapeno popper with cream cheese and such ) and some jerk chicken truck, were both underwhelming
especially the jerk one, i can make it better myself at home
i agree with gd that the price wasn't exactly cheap for both the quality and quantity
but in general, i do find their existence and that platform interesting

How in the world do you eat mac n cheese on a sandwich? Were they all out of the mashed potatoes and gravy wraps?

A fellow chub asking me how I could eat that fattening high carb food...for shame.

One morning I happened upon The Eastman Egg Company truck. The sandwich I got was good, but not worth the cash, but the coffee was out of this world. I keep looking for the truck just to get another cup of that coffee. I probably won't bother with another egg sandwich though. I think the sandwich was like 9 bucks which is very high for an egg sandwich. (I could care less about cage free eggs, etc)

My wife recently read Omnivore's Dilemma and decided to be a more responsible consumer of animal products. We've been getting a "meat share" each month that includes various humanely raised products, e.g. sausage, ground beef, roasts, chops, etc. It also always comes with a dozen eggs. These eggs are never white. Some of the ones we get last time were bluish green and sometimes they are brown. But these eggs have so much more flavor then the supermarket eggs it's hard to believe. Even the yolks have a deeper, richer orange color. This stuff is expensive, but I'd say it's worth it.

my brother and his family have chickens....
when we were there for thanksgiving last year, next morning had eggs and yeah totally agree with you- the yolk is richer, much better flavor
i guess the only issue is how many they lay....they have 4 kids and even though there's 5 or 6 chickens he said it depends on how much they get, they might only lay 1 egg a day or something

They park on Clark south of Monroe whenever I see them. The chicken sandwich is great.

Again, food trucks are supposed to be the cheap alternative. Somehow, in Chicago, they have become some kind of expensive hipster alternative. Meanwhile, they are not allowed to cook in them in the city, only prepare food, so you are getting neither the freshest, the cleanliest nor the cheapest. I don't really understand the attraction.
