NBA peeps are worried about the Bulls right now. A starting 5 of Rose, Afflalo, Carmelo, Taj + Noah w/ Butler as 6th man is VERY doable.

It's not doable because of the salary cap and there wouldn't be enough basketballs.

What do you mean? Only 2 of those 6 players need the ball to make an impact.

Afflalo is a scorer too. Obviously not as good as Melo and 2011 Rose. I think Taj will want a few touches too.

Afflalo is a spot up shooter and defender. He would fit in just fine with that lineup.

I hate to even read stuff like that. Just gets my hopes up as that would be a great lineup.

But how can you add Affalo and Melo and still keep Taj and Butler?

Just don't see it.

Now that I think about it the Bulls have trade exceptions and non guaranteed contracts to pull it off. Problem is they couldn't do it before the draft UNLESS they get the Knicks to agree to sign and trade Melo.

If the Knicks know Melo is going to opt out wouldn't it be to their advantage to sign and trade him? That way they at least get something out of the deal?

Orlando has plenty of cap space so a trade of Boozer and the 2 first round picks this year for Afflalo and another trade exception would work. The Bulls could then trade those exceptions along with the Kings pick and Mirotic to the Knicks for Melo. It would make sense for the Knicks because those exceptions would come in handy next off season and give them the ability to spend even more money.

If the salary cap increases dramatically all of these things will be even easier.

@chicagobullsbot: Chicago Bulls could trade Carlos Boozer/#16/#19 for Arron Afflalo/2 waivable deals. Clear Dunleavy/Snell for Melo. (Source: Bill Simmons)

Would likely mean Mirotic needed to be moved with Dun/Snell.

Where is your confidence buddy? It would make sense for everyone but the Bulls have to get trade exceptions in return from Orlando.

There is like a decade of being left standing the corner of these dances for Bulls fans not to feel similarly to RFDC.

Tim Duncan, Grant Hill, and Tracy McGrady, right?

"Amid earlier reports that he was simply making a "courtesty visit" to Chicago--after being overwhelmed by the prospect of playing for the Orlando Magic--McGrady was greeted at O'Hare Airport by team mascot Benny the Bull, the Luvabulls cheerleaders, a small band playing "Sweet Home, Chicago" and a media horde. And--oh, yes--coach Tim Floyd, General Manager Jerry Krause and his new assistant B.J. Armstrong were on hand to greet McGrady at Gate C-20 as well."

Not really. Duncan/Hill/McGrady were pipe dreams. Jordan had just left the Bulls and everyone knows that you never want to step in the shoes of a great man. In 2010 the Heat was a better option for LeBron and Bosh. Wade was already a great player and no one expected Rose to do what he did the following year. Noah wasn't great at that point either. There was talk of trading him and Deng for Bosh. Boozer was considered the best player on the Bulls before the season started. On top of that Thibodeau was an unknown as a coach. It's different this time. The Bulls are in the best position to grab any of these players that want to win. They have the assets and the flexibility to get it done.

IIRC, isn't Afflalo one of those guys that Beerstain and Goffralopithicus thought the Bulls should ideally get 2-3 years ago? I seem to remember my sports thought gatekeepers saying that it was OK for the Bulls to get Afflalo who is also some kind of "weird dude" who has phlosophical thoughts and whatnot (he's like an older version of Jaden Smith) and yeah, he'd be "a thing" out here. I know this to be true because if Beerstain and the Score's basketball expert agree, then yeah, greatness is coming.
