This trade actually puts them under the cap if Melo walks.

Now Phil just needs to find a way to make the purge legal so he can murder Amare.

I feel like Amare signed a 20 year contract with them. How many years are left on that fucking thing?

This is the last year of the deal.

Love that trade for the Mavs. Trying to make another run with Dirk.

They almost got the Spurs this year.

I'm not sure id say almost. Game 7 was really lopsided. The Mavs will be good but I don't see them as title contenders.

Actually something just occurred to me. I would love Phil to build a champion in the next few years to shove it up B&B's ass. Of course, by then they will have evolved in their stance.

They may make a run at Stevenson and others.

True, that game was a blowout, but they were the only team to force them to a game 7 and the only team to have them down in a series this year. I would say that was pretty close.

Yeah, I guess so. I just never thought there was a chance SA was gonna lose that series. There's no question Dallas gave them the toughest test of the postseason though.

Told you, Nas, those expiring contracts are assets.

If I am Melo the better core is Howard-Harden over Noah-Rose, only because we don't know what we have in Rose.

There are a few problems:
1. Melo is the same player as Harden.
2. They still have to trade Lin.
3. The West is a tougher league.

You were right. I'm shocked someone is going to pay him $15M (It only counts as about $8M against the cap) and give up a likely lottery pick. Houston should be giving up the pick.

If you're in salary cap hell the deal is more about clearing the money after only one year as opposed to paying Asik. Melo and Harden will have compatibility issues but maybe Melo is willing to learn from LeBron and adjust.

The Pelicans weren't in cap hell though. They had to have at least $8M in cap space to make the trade.

Vegan they only had $48M on salaries on the books. They must truly believe that this trade will help them win.

Yea I am not sure what their cap situation is, but still in general I think an expiring deal is useful. I'm not sure why they gave up a first rounder if they weren't in need of relief, perhaps they think they can make the playoffs anyway and essentially write off the pick. Or maybe they want to use Asik's deal in midseason to swing another trade.

Good point, but he can't help Rose regain his explosiveness. I'm thinking you don't want to join a team and become its best player and only reliable offensive weapon, even if the coach is fantastic, especially when the competition (OKC, SA, LAC, and maybe Miami) can still outgun you. We'll see though, but Houston still got a sweet deal, it seems, even if Melo doesn't sign with them.

If the Rockets are able to dump Lin they will have $42.7M in salaries on the books for 8 players. If the Bulls dump Dunleavy and do something with Boozer and get rid of their draft picks they will have $42.6M in salaries but only 5 players. You need to add $500k for every roster spot not filled. That puts the Bulls at basically $46M and the Rockets at roughly $45M. With the salary cap projected to be $63M the Bulls would be able to offer Melo a starting salary of $17M and the Rockets would be able to offer $18M if neither team is able to work out a sign and trade. If a trade is needed the Bulls have far more assets and trade exceptions to pull it off. The Rockets would come up short in that regard.

Will the Pelicans draft pick be sweeter than any pick the Bulls can offer? The Bulls' best trade(able) asset is probably Mirotic.

No. The Bulls still have the Kings pick and obviously Mirotic is better than anything the Rockets could offer.

Besides the Knicks would likely want multiple draft picks and Houston couldn't offer it. They also wouldn't have the trade exceptions to take back salary if needed. Rockets have a better roster on paper and slightly more cap room. The Bulls have more assets to trade if Melo wants more money and they are a more natural fit in an easier conference. Edge has to go to the Bulls. I'm slightly worried about the Mavs.

Per Kyrie Jordan, Joel Embiid tweeted "I'm a Laker" last night and then deleted it shortly thereafter ... make of that what you will.

why do Wade and Bosh have a different deadline as to whether they are opting out?

No reason other than that is just the language they had in their contracts.
