Holland's 2-0 and look like front-runners to at least return to the final this time around, after losing to Spain in the WC final 4 years ago. They play Chile in a half hour, but without RVP/van persie--who rec'd 2 yellow cards in the prior two matches and so has to sit out this one.

Not sure the outcome of this match matters that much to either team, as both Chile/Holland are already through to the knockout-round. And I think Brazil gets to pick their next opponents? regardless of who comes out with the higher point total? At least that's the interpretation I'm getting from Dutch acquaintances. But they're Dutch; so they're likely lying about something, sneaky buggers.

Speaking of the Official USA Soccer(not football) Bandwagon, yesterday I decided to catch the 2nd half of the game down by Small Bar on Division (between Oakley/Damen) and HOLY SHIT was Division St ever loaded up with gaggles upon gaggles of people all decked out in their Firecracker Popsicle jerseys and/or other Americana-related-garb.... I counted 4 people with full facepaint (if you add in the chicks with American flags painted on their face you get up to about ~10) and outside of that I also saw proper Chelsea, 1990s Buyern Munich, and even 2014 German National team kits.

Then the ride home on the Metra was the oddest thing I've ever experienced in my life: A SOCCER TRAIN! You'd swear that the USMNT had just played a friendly at Soldier Field the way the 8:45pm Metra was packed to the gills / standing-room-only with USA Soccer fans out the wazoo. It was truly a sight to behold when you consider that there wasn't even a game in Chicago, this was just comprised of people who came out to the city to watch the game at a bar (...cuz evidently the suburbs don't have good bars with enough eye candy to send you into a diabetic coma?) so yeah if people from the MLS are watching what's going on with the level of bandwagoning of this 2014 USMNT, I'd do everything in my power to recreate Pele '75 by getting Messi out here before he turns 35.

Indeed, in all of the hoopla that I called "Soccerpalooza" I only noticed one Chicago Fire jersey. This means that European jerseys of teams not even playing yesterday were outnumbering the fire by at least 4:1, and likely more if I walked around peoplewatching more.

So kudos going out to the USMNT/ESPN and all the other people behind this World Cup coverage/marketing-blitz. They've done a good job cuz you know when you see a trendy fratboy in a DISKERUD/10 kit hanging out in a sea of red white and blue people (with no less than 5 other USMNT jerseys) that this population probably wants to like/love soccer more than they do. Yesterday was a bonafide thing that was epic to be a part of, especially when the USMNT blew their auto-advancing on the last damn kick of the game.

Later last night I even got ran out of #soccer because I refused to accept the possibility of Jermaine Jones joining Arsenal to replace Mikel Arteta.... c'est la vie. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! (I can't wait for all these people to go away soon so I can get back to enjoying my Premier League without all of the bandwagoners.... <irony> =)

I am conflicted. On one hand, I want the USA to lose to shut up all the people telling me soccer is becoming popular. On the other hand, I want the USA to win because I know how much it irritates other countries who really care about soccer.
