My rage was more directed at having Subway on the 4th versus having to spend it with her mother.

My wife and my parents are very close. She truly is like a daughter to them.

I used to be the same way with her parents before menopause hit her mom or something and went off the deep end. We still get along okay, but not nearly as good as it used to be.

I think the in-law thing is an interesting and often cliche' dynamic because they truly act as your family, but you didn't grow up with them and often can't be as honest with them as you can your own, true family.

What do they have against BBQs?

I'd love to be grilling tomorrow night...but we HAVE to go to her mom's so we can see the fireworks. I'd even be willing to grill at her house but in my times over there I've never even seen a working grill, so unless I bring one myself that's out of the question too.

So I guess your mission is clear
