They'll be fine. Obviously I believe Melo is the best way to go but they'll be a top 3 team in the East no matter what.

Thats not saying much Nas

EXACTLY!

What is "FINE?" Top 3 in a horrible East? Patchwork bullshit team with a china doll #1?

NO. I refuse to accept your premise!

I'm not okay with it either that's why I want Melo.

In refusing to trade he forces Melo to decide between 129.million or signing outright with some other team for 70-90 million. That's a lot of leverage. Woj's report about Melo recruiting Gasol to me provides the biggest clue into his thinking.

What major free agent has the Knicks signed in the last 20 to 30 years?

No one wanted him for that price similar to Joe Johnson. He couldn't even get his contract insured because of concerns about his knees.

That's why Melo shouldn't buy what Phil is selling. As great as NY is supposed to be no major basketball free agent goes there.

Two all stars at the time forced/demanded trades to NY: Marbury and Anthony.

Melo wanted to come to Chicago too but the Bulls refused to give up Deng and Noah for him. I don't completely remember what happened with Marbury but I know he didn't last long.

It appears that the Knicks took back some awful contracts to get the Marbury deal done. Check out this list:

Carmelo and his wife live in LA so beyond being born there why does he need to stay in NY?

Money. It is clear that he will sign with NY to get his money. The only question is does he want a sign and trade or does he really want to sign with and play for NY. He just may have settled for them since no compatible trade partner could be found.

For sure. But my point was players in the past have wanted to play for NY, and how theyve managed to get to NY is by forcing a trade since NY has been badly managed cap-wise for a long time.

Both the Daily News and the Post regard LeBron James as the only wild card here -- the Lakers are reportedly trying to sign James and Anthony, and there's also the slim, slim chance Anthony could wind up in Miami. At this point, all signs point to him staying in in New York. Anything else would be considered a surprise.

Next lockout is scheduled/likely to happen Summer 2017.
One line of thinking is that the owners will have to cough up more to the players at that time.
So guys who are doing deals this Summer might want to do 4 year deals with an opt out after
the 2017 season--to allow them to be free agents right away under the new CBA.

Hard to believe, even though it's Woj. I'd be shocked if Melo leaves over thirty million on the table and signs with LA outright. If it's a sign and trade then who the hell do the Lakers have to give back? That's one of the worst rosters in the league. It would make sense if LBJ was going there too - that's been LA's goal.

Also if NY trades Melo to LA, do we start raising conflict of interest questions?

The Los Angeles Lakers have ascended into serious contention to sign New York free agent Carmelo Anthony, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Lakers moved into strong consideration with the front-running New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls over this weekend, sources told Yahoo Sports.

No one with direct knowledge of the process would declare the Lakers had overtaken New York and Chicago in Anthony's mind, but one source close to Anthony said of the Lakers, "They're in the game now."

The Lakers met with Anthony on Friday, offering him a four-year, $97 million contract. Lakers star Kobe Bryant has been in constant contact with Anthony, and the Lakers could re-sign Pau Gasol to pair with Anthony on the frontline.

The Lakers' roster is stripped of talent, and the combination of Bryant and Anthony possessing max contracts would limit the financial flexibility to upgrade the roster. Nevertheless, Anthony keeps a home in Los Angeles and the franchise's pitch has resonated with him.

After Friday's meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson and coach Derek Fisher, sources told Yahoo Sports that Anthony had become more comfortable with Jackson's plan to use him as the cornerstone to lure free agent stars into salary cap space in 2015 and '16. One thing that still bothers Anthony is Jackson had wanted him to take less than a max contract, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Anthony, 30, is a seven-time NBA All-Star.

3 team deal:

Bulls send Butler and Taj to NY, Boozer to LA
NY sends Melo to LA
NY sends a decent slice of pizza to Chicago.

Do LA or NY have a Mirotic to offer Melo? Didn't think so. BULLS.
