Rex certainly sucks, but does anybody actually remember this guy when he played?????? Theres a reason they couldnt get Rex in there fast enough when healthy. Hes a knotch above Krenzel, Quinn, Burris, and whoever else has played QB for the Bears in the past 3 years. Grossman for sure isnt the answer I dont think, but hes better than Orton.

Not a fair comparison at all. Rex was the starter that year until his injury while Orton was a fourth round draft pick that didn't expect to play at all that year and was given the appropriate attention in practice...next to none. After Rex was injured, Orton came in and played with about two pages of the playbook and sucked enough to not lose ten games. I can't say whether he's better than Rex or not...but basing it all on that one year for Orton doesn't really make sense.

Between injuries and being an easy read on game film, Orton's final year at Purdue was one of the great 'Who got figured out quickly, and why' question/answers in recent college football.

He was/is stiif, slow footed, w/o a 'power' arm, doesn't seem to read defenses well and wins only as a part of the machine. He seems like a happy go lucky stiff one step removed from David Woodley.

Thats where I was going with all this. It doesnt matter what round they were drafted in, just what they can do in the here and now on the field.

Kyle Orton was not ready to be a starter in the league his rookie year. Very few QB's are. There is a list a mile long on QB's that struggled their rookie years. Orton played as good as he could have his rookie year. There was a reason he was a fourth round pick.

Tony Romo wasn't even drafted and didn't do anything his rookie season. Now there are about 20 teams that would want him on their team. Matt Leinart was benched this week and he was a top 10 pick. Tom Brady was passed on by every NFL team for most of the draft.

The comparison to Grossman is not fair since all we have to on is his rookie year.

Kyle Orton will be a starting QB in the league again. Mark it down.

I agree! But not with the Bears...

It is still widely believed that a hip injury had a lot to do with his poor play after the wisconsin game. We will never know how true that is but it was a terrible end to a season that looked great.

Your assessment of his arm is wrong. He has a powerful arm. There was no throw he couldn't make in college. While he could never be confused with a mobile QB, he can find a way to get it done.

You can't judge any QB on how he plays his rookie year. He's going to get another shot. I don't know if he will become an all pro QB or not but he does have potential.

Agree, agree, agree...this is a ridiculous discussion and I'd rather spend my time bashing players who actually played badly rather than saying the would-be replacement player (who by the way, DIDN'T PLAY) would play even worse.

That may be the best thing for him. I still think that if things go how they currently are that Griese/Orton/free agent QB will battle for playing time next season. If Rex is signed to a long term deal, then Orton will be traded.

And Angelo will eventually lose his job.
