I just circumvent the process and hand over my iPhone to the first group of black kids I see roaming around down there. Save myself $50 in eating anyway.

No. Went once and didn't see the attraction of overpriced food.

Thought about going to see Jeff Tweedy until badrogue reminded me that this whole thing is basically just a pretense for "flash mobs," as we're calling them now, to rob you. Then again, maybe a Jeff Tweedy concert is a safe space for white people. If it's not, what is?

I don't think Tweedy appeals to the iPhone crowd anyway.

That's exactly who he appeals to. iPhones are easy to use, idiot-proof. They're for grandmas and grandpas. And Bucky Chris.

His new solo track is pretty meandering and boring, like the worst of Wilco (The Album). But d'awwww it's so cute that his son plays drums for him. I suppose Jeff Tweedy is now the Eddie Van Halen of the Brown Line set. Fingers are crossed that he gets that stuff out of the way early and focuses on classic Wilco stuff. I don't care what JORR and -- who's that other Wilco hater here? rpb? spanky? -- think, still a terrific band.

I'm not really a Wilco hater. I think Tweedy is a great songwriter. But I do think Jay Bennett was a great foil for him. Too bad he ran him out of the band and then killed him. Now he is free to indulge all of his worst instincts with wankers like Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche.

I don't mind Cline and Kotche outside of Wilco, but I think Tweedy's been writing music solely for the NPR set since Ghost, and even that album I could barely listen to the whole way though. Then again I'm someone who would take Uncle Tupelo's discography over Wilco's in a second, so my opinions on Tweedy are probably suspect.

I thought the last record was pretty good. A return to relying on songs rather than gimmickry.

Wilco (The Album) was mostly a misstep, but Sky Blue Sky is beautiful and The Whole Love has some of their best work. I like both more than A Ghost Is Born, which never really gets off the ground.

I agree with JORR that losing Jay Bennett was an enormous setback. I feel like Tweedy has always wanted Wilco to be his nom de band -- like the Mountain Goats, for example -- more than a true band, but his best work has always come in some sort of collaboration, whether it's Farrar or Bennett or Billy Bragg with the ghost of Woody Guthrie or even just handing guitar duties over to Nels Cline. A Ghost Is Born is mostly unchecked Tweedy, and it's boring.

I hate that XRT treats them like they are The Beatles. On their own their a fine little band. Tweedy is a mega douche but he's a rock star so that's fine

My stance on them is similar - outside of the greater Chicago area, most people have no freakin idea who Wilco is. They're nothing special, really.

But you'd never know that the way the bros and the XRT types treat them.

Oh, bullshit. They play the Foo Fighters more than Wilco. The Current in Minneapolis players more Wilco than XRT does. Wilco can't even get a Friday feature without having to split it with the likes of, yeah, the fucking Foo Fighters.

It's not bullshit but I should have mentioned that I stopped listening to FM radio in like 2004-05

I think the FOO worship has intensified in the years since

1:31 in, Tweedy pimping for Apple, back when WILCO were in label-limbo, I believe:

(not screenshot worthy)

Yes, iphones are for idiots, chicks and Image. The best mobile devices are the Nokia windows phones/tablets (no joke). The most technically sophisticated/capable are the Androids--but Androids require a bit more TLC to set up and keep running smoothly. I have a tendency to overload my android with apps. Do I really need 6 different audio players and 5 video players and ? Nokia Windows phones work and are blazingly fast compared to what can be a molasses slow android experience.

Andorid being linux underneath makes it fun to fuck with (I have an HTC One) but my Windows phone (Nokia 920) gets the job done day in, day out--despite being locked down in terms of the OS/software.

Speaking of Windows phones, been too long since AT&T released a new, top of the line Nokia windows device. they keep pushing out "mid-range" nokia/windows devices. Verizon has the 929/930, which looks like a larger version of the iPhone form factor.

I think Nokia/AT&T/Microsoft hurt their sales in the relatively unsophisticated US market by under-pricing their top-of-the-line phones. People go into a store or on a website and see the top Androids and iphones going for $199 and up and then see the specs-comparable (AND with better hardware, camera/screen/casing) Nokia windows devices at $99 or less and assume the latter isn't at the formers' level. Completely untrue. Don't sleep on Nokia Windows devices. They work fast and flawlessly and I've never put a case on my Nokia 920 and it looks as good as when I got it over a year ago--despite having dropped it a few times and constantly carrying it in my pocket with keys/change/etc.

I wouldn't carry an iPhone or most Android devices without an after-market case.
