You know it makes more sense for a team ready to contend like Chicago or Houston to sign Melo, not so much NY. I wonder why he didn't consider blowing it up. Maybe too early on the job?

When you have a CIRCLE or an INNER CIRCLE you need $129 Mill.

Anyone in the Inner circle is usually a high priced unemployable friend

To me the longer this goes on the more this has to be about teaming up with James or someone else. All he has to do to get the 129 million is roll out of bed and sign some papers. That he hasn't might mean he's trying to orchestrate a way out of NY that hasn't been widely discussed.

This is just crazy. Someone pick a team to play with

Quote:
Carmelo Anthony is considering leaving the New York Knicks and heading to the Chicago Bulls, according to a report from ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. On ESPN Chicago 1000 with Carmen and Jurko, Smith laid out new information about Anthony's possible departure.

Yesterday at approximately after 5 p.m., the day after i was on ESPN Chicago, and I got a call. 'Look something has come up. Something is in the mix. Melo is having second thoughts, and this is what it is. CHICAGO. Suddenly Chicago is on his mind.' And this is someone who is incredibly close to Carmelo Anthony who I completely trust as a source. Couldn't explain why. But just said Chicago is not out of the mix. Believe what you want. Melo is chilling at home with his wife, his family and he's talking about the Chicago Bulls.
The report was confirmed by Mike McGraw of the Arlington Daily Herald.

Whatever the case may be, he clearly is having a tough time rationalizing playing for NY. He wants the money and a better team.

Bullshit. I heard the same thing. An hour later Windhorst came on and said the Bulls are on life support. Stephen A Smith said he didn't believe it when he heard it.

Hearing stronger indications Melo is heavily weighing CHI. 1 high-ranking source: CHI was favorite after all meetings. Torn over NY & Kobe.

Melo can opt out of a CHI deal after 3 yrs to make up NY money he left on table. Can have an option after 3 & get max w/ Bird Rights after.

Gotta think Melo announcing he's going to resign with NY is going to be so underwhelming after LBJ destroyed the only team that's won the east for the past four years. Chicago just made more sense for Melo, if that's even possible. If Love goes to Cleveland then it doesn't matter where Melo goes. Just take NY money and live in obscurity because Cleveland will dominate for the next five years with Love, Irving, and LBJ.

Carmelo signing with the Bulls for three years makes a lot of sense.

Why would you sign Melo to a max contract 3 years from now? He'll be the Soriano of the Bulls.

Likely a lockout after 3 seasons/Summer of 2017; followed by a new, more player-friendly (esp veteran players, as they rule the union roost) CBA.

So being able to opt out and then get new paper under the new CBA in 3 seasons makes a lot of sense financially. As long as you think you'll still be a top-tier
free agent at that time.

He'll be 33 with heavy mileage (even more with Thibs as his coach) in year one if he resigns. He'll be older than Wade is now when he would sign that contract. I mean sign him for 3 years, but if your handshake deal is to resign him for a full boat in 3 years you're nutty.

Woj tweeting that Heat will try to keep Bosh. If bosh stays why not go after Melo as well?

According to a source, however, as of Friday the Knicks remained unwilling to help the Bulls out in any way with a sign-and-trade, basically telling their star that if he wants to leave for Chicago they won’t lend a hand in making up the $54 million he would be leaving on the table.

Carmelo says Rose recruited him, he almost signed with Bulls

In an upcoming documentary on Carmelo Anthony's hectic, two-week free agency, the seven-time All-Star admits being thisclose to choosing the Bulls over the Knicks.

According to the NY Post, which obtained footage of the documentary, Anthony admits to his decision coming down to the Knicks and Bulls, going so far as to say, "There was one point in time I was like, 'Oh, I'm going [to the Bulls]."

Perhaps more surprising is that Anthony, in a conversation with agent Leon Rose, said that he and Derrick Rose had been talking, calling the former MVP "tough." Rose had faced criticism during the offseason for sticking to his guns and not actively recruiting Anthony, though he did show up for a workout the day Anthony met with Bulls officials at the United Center.

And after that visit - the Bulls were Anthony's first meeting - Anthony also tells Leon Rose that the Bulls knocked their presentation out of the park and that the Bulls wanted Anthony to be the piece that took them "to the next level," according to Anthony.

"You could see the culture they have over there. The seriousness they have, what they're about. It comes down to winning to me, and that's what they're about. That's what I like. They hit everything on the nail," he said. "That's hard to do."
Anthony's manager, Bay Frazier, said Anthony would go to sleep leaning toward Chicago and wake up leaning toward New York. Frazier also said money was a factor; though a sign-and-trade would have been an option between the Knicks and Bulls, Chicago could only offer Anthony a maximum contract of $74 million, and when compared to the $124 million the Knicks could offer Frazier called it a "no-brainer."

Anthony has said in the past that staying in New York, where he has settled in with a family over the last seven years, was a determining factor. And in the documentary, he reportedly states that the Rockets and Mavericks were out of the running for that very reason, that a kid from the East Coast couldn't deal with the "culture change" of living in Texas. He also didn't want to deal with the assumed rebuild that would take place in Los Angeles had he chosen to sign with the Lakers.

“I would advise any [player] who gets a chance to try free agency to do it,’’ Anthony said in the documentary. “But also the flip side of it is the s–t is stressful. The s–t is overwhelming. I would never do it again. I can say now I’ve experienced it. I would never ever do it again.’’
