All are valid, but the piece about Cutler buying into Trestman's system -- supported by the stats that show him actually getting rid of the ball to avoid sacks while still ranking high in QB hits -- is the most convincing:

I like the cut of your jib already. I mean Brick is going to tear you a new one and internet argue you into obscurity but I dig your style.

This really isnt breaking news. he has the 6th lowest odds in Vegas to win MVP. Not saying he wins it, but it wouldnt be a surprise

Fine.
Quote:
1. He no longer has to bully his offensive line to block better.
This is a bad start. Your #1 reason is that other players are better?
Quote:
2. He is healthy.
You really think the high ankle sprain he got in 2012 took this long to heal?
Quote:
3. He returns for another year in an effective offensive system.
So does pretty much every other top fifteen QB. What makes it so he will jump over all of them?
Quote:
4. He has fully bought into Trestman's offensive system.
We heard that last year, and he was outplayed by his backup.
Quote:
5. This is his team.
It's been his team since day one. Was Brian Urlacher making him throw interceptions?
Quote:
6. He has arguably the best receiving core in the league.
So, we have yet another reason coming from other players.
Quote:
7. His has one of the top running backs in the league.
Cutler will win the MVP because other players are good!
Quote:
8. His defense has improved from 2012.
Cutler will win the MVP because other players are better!
Quote:
9. He's matured.
This is just made up garbage.
Quote:
10. He is happier, more relaxed and even smiles during games more -- see reasons 1-9.
Did I miss the start of the season?

7 reasons why he won't win the MVP.
1. He isn't as good as the elite qbs and never has been.
2. He is now past 30 and it is very rare for a QB to significantly improve past 30. If they were elite, they can stay elite but it is incredibly rare to see it happen for an average QB.
3. Brandon Marshall will start to decline at some point. Jeffrey may be able to make up for this, but I don't see the offense improving next season, and last season was not an MVP season even with the combined QB stats.
4. The Bears won't have a good enough record. They'd have to go 13-3 for him to have a real shot. That won't happen.
5. He has to be better than multiple future hall of fame QB's to win the MVP. Even if Peyton has a major decline, he still has a lot of other people to jump over. I'd be shocked if he is even better than Philip Rivers next year.
6. He has never in his whole career shown the consistency required to be in the MVP discussion. He'd have to improve his career best numbers in such a huge way that it would be virtually unprecedented. Philip Rivers had 4478 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last year and he didn't come close.
7. He smiles too much on the sidelines.

He'll have a good season. He may even have a career best season. He'll be lucky to be a top ten quarterback next year. That would actually require a major improvement.

Brick, nice to meet you...

I concede that the "ten reason" format tends to weaken arguments, however, the quality of other teammates matter in football -- especially the offensive line for a QB.

As for your points..
1. The MVP award is a one year vacuum. It does not matter what he did before or what he will do in the future.

2. Your point on aging QBs is excellent -- indeed incredibly rare as Rich Gannon is the only example I can think of off the top of my head.

3. I don't think Marshall will significantly decline THIS season.

4. Your point about win/loss record could be valid, but I think winning the division and making the playoffs are more influential than win total.

5. He has to be better than everyone! Of course there are other great players... I am just saying that he has a lot of variables going his way this year to win it.

6. My point is that this is where the system comes into play. You could have said the same about McCown before last year.

7. He does smile to much. If you watch his body language... Ha!

I think we agree he will do well. I just think this is the season that everything is aligned for him to be exceptional.

I believe he will be MVP, barring significant injury (duh) to any offensive starter... Our offense is potent, but there is a steep drop from starter to backup across positions.

Is the depth better than I think?

I'll say I think it is a good setup for a career year, but that isn't going to make him an MVP candidate.

Good thoughts. Just proofread your articles.

I just fear that he and Jared Allen will split votes resulting in a third party sneaking in for the award
