Melo's shoulder concerns me. I believe he needs surgery.

The Gasol interest makes sense if they get Lance, Melo, etc. He would be awesome in the sixth man role Taj had except he can play center also. If he's your big man coming off the bench and he's healthy that's an incredibly good front court. I think he can still play, I just don't know about his health. But I wouldn't sign him for anything more than $2/10M or something but I think he's going to SA.

It's looking like we might miss out on basically everybody once again. I hope Bosh or Melo go to Houston and we can get Parsons. I'm pretty sure they're keeping him otherwise.

I don't believe Bulls come away with nothing. Mirotic will be here, as will hopefully Parsons or Lance. Can Parsons play #2 in a pinch?

Parsons will likely be off the table since the Rockets will match, unless they don't want to after signing someone like Bosh. But there's a line for Parsons, and whoever gets to him first will have to wait three days with reduced cap space and either sign him or watch the Rockets match.

Can one of you expert guys help me with something? Don't think like a fan but and owner or JR himself and answer this. I am going to pay Boozer to go away to get Pau Gasol why?

The same reason you pay to get rid of Keppinger or pay to sign Mirotic - It makes the team better.

I guess I see Gasol as different but not so much better that I eat the cash as an owner. Melo yes. Gasol no.

Assuming they get him for two years, it's a low risk you take money wise with a guy considered to be not much of a problem in terms of character, which is also something they value.

I understand that Vegan. My question as JR is not whether Gasol is good or a great guy. Is he so much better than Boozer that I pay Carlos to go away and get nothing? Just wondered that angle no biggie.

Yea I get you, just trying to add more to what FF said. I guess it also doesn't strike me as necessarily logical to pay Booz to go away only to perhaps marginally improve with Gasol. Another angle may be Thibs is just done with him. I don't think Carlos ended the season on good terms with Thibs if I recall correctly.

Hey Cowley and KC.....just because Melo hasn't told the Bulls he's going back to the Knicks doesn't mean he isn't. I don't give a shit how "fluid" the story is.......he's not coming.

It's been so long that he probably forgot who he visited, so it's likely that no notice is coming anyway.

Yahoo sports saying bulls and Lakers finalizing sign and trade for gasol.

Why would they do that before hearing from melo? Doesn't that pretty much remove them from being able to sign him?

I believe that the trade would be finalized after a decision from Melo. I now pray that the Bulls get Melo. I do not want Gasol near the Bulls. Thibs needs to close the deal on Melo. Gasol isn't better than Boozer.

No he isn't. At worst we know Boozer will be gone next year. Gasol would be here for at least 3 years and looking like Boozer for at least $30M.

Agree. Gasol would be Boozer 2.0 with worse body odor. Though I don't know what Thibs has to do with closing a deal on Melo, Nas.

There was a report that said that the only reason the Bulls are back in the Melo sweepstakes was because Thibs made contact and said something to Melo to make him reconsider. Considering that the Bulls can use the Lakers or even the Sixes to work out a sign and trade with Melo it comes down to $$. Does he really need the 5th year NOW. It's not like the Bulls can't or won't give him a 5th year in the future. Maybe they only give him $15 in 4 years because he is declining. That is only a $17M difference. Really about only $8M when you consider taxes that will be paid. Is it worth losing $8M so that you can win multiple championships?

 Lets not get ahead of ourselves, its a chance to win championships, at least a better chance than what staying in NY can offer anyway.

Looking at the East right now the Bulls would get to the Finals easily this season and possibly next. That's half the battle.

Looks like the Bulls are trying to acquire Anthony and Gasol based on the sign and trade deal they're trying to make with the Lakers. That may mean Taj would be included in a deal for Carmelo.

By K.C. Johnson, Tribune reporter

10:04 am, July 12, 2014

The Bulls are working to finalize an agreement with Pau Gasol, and league sources said a sign-and-trade acquisition has been discussed with the Lakers.

Though the Lakers would have to nimbly execute several transactions that started with Friday's agreement to trade for the Rockets' Jeremy Lin, a league source indicated the Bulls have discussed sending Mike Dunleavy and the non-guaranteed contracts of Mike James, Lou Amundsen and Ronnie Brewer to the Lakers.

If this happens, the Bulls would be able to address wing depth and possibly sign Nikola Mirotic with other resources.

The Spanish national daily newspaper Marca said Gasol could take a physical within the next few days.

The Bulls have been in the hunt for Carmelo Anthony and are waiting for that conclusion, which could come Saturday. It's unlikely but possible that the Bulls could acquire Gasol and Anthony, although the Knicks are still considered the favorites to re-sign Anthony.

Man I hope so.

The only way I want Gasol is if he comes with Melo, but I just do not see them having the ability to do both.

This shit is crazy, new stuff every day

IF they were able to work out a deal with the Lakers for the players listed in the article, they could then trade Boozer, Snell and Randolph in a deal for Melo. They may be asked to give up Taj though.

IDK this answer but Nas might. I would say all these other teams perform magic (Houston) so why not us? The best thing I saw so far last couples days was both Melo and Gasol. Now that is talking.

Depends on who is included in a sign and trade to get Gasol. If it's Dunleavy and a bunch of throw in contracts (like Brewer), then they still have the Boozer money to work with. Still seems like a longshot and highly unlikely but the NBA can produce some seemingly strange deals due to the complex nature of the CBA.

Edit -nas beat me to it
