The Bulls defense is more of a system than simply a one on one specific match up shutdown.

He was. Seems like you never hear his name anymore though.
On a side note, that's really a creepy avatar.

So what's the deal?

Stephenson?
Gasol?
Love?

What's the score?

If the Bulls come out of this with Gasol or some Tier 2 schmuck and pay them big money....oy!

Not sure what that means. I understand that the concept of guys playing multiple positions in today's NBA but they still have to guard someone. Can Mirotic play some 3? Maybe, but I doubt he can guard one. Thibs won't tolerate defensive deficiencies just to give guys minutes.

Then how did Augustin play so much last year? Of course Thibs will play a guy like that. It he won't, then it looks like we have a 4 man rotation for next year.
Come on FF. Augustin played because they had no other choice. Plus he was the only guy who could score on most nights. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt Mirotic will light 'em up enough to offset his (presumed) limitations on D.

If Mirotic can't be at least as productive as Augustin than this conversation is moot anyway. He would be a bust.

He used to be good in the 90's. Because it's New York I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

The Bulls will be top 3 in the East with the addition of Gasol, Mirotic, McDermott and a healthy Rose. What I don't get is how Gasol, Taj and Mirotic will share minutes. I suppose Gasol can back-up Noah as well but that still seems to be a bit of a log-jam at the 4. They still need a back-up to Jimmy...unless they think Hinrich can handle both guard positions or that Snell is going to take a big leap (as in big leap of faith).

Gasol will play both the 4 and the 5. Mirotic will probably play some 4 and 3.

That would be the only time. I am simply saying that yes Taj is way better defense but in a team sense maybe Thibs can cover that with other players dropping in consistent buckets.

Can't wait to dominate the Knicks next season, and for multiple seasons to come.
Fuck Melo :D

Me too, but I don't blame Melo. No way in hell I would leave $55 million on the table.

I wish people stop saying that. It would have been less than $20M and possibly less than $10M.

No it wouldn't have. Not without trading Taj.

What is the thought process behind current team's being able to offer the extra year and larger salary guaranteed in the CBA?

Let's mix this up a bit. Teams under .500 the year before should be able to offer an extra year and a higher salary. Parity.

Even without trading Taj it wouldn't be $50M no matter what. Everyone was acting like he would never get a 5th year from the Bulls.

It's supposed to help small market teams keep star players.

What exactly is GarPax's plan here.....I'm thinking Melo is renegotiation his contract so the Knicks get Gasol.Gasol has a connection with Phil and Fisher. That leaves the Bulls still needing scoring. What you think?

Yeah but he'll eventually get a 5th year so it's misleading.

I would go after Stephenson but apparently the entire league thinks that he is toxic.

Not sure how Melo's contract would make it more likely they can get Gasol.
Melo annual salary w/ max in year 1, decrease, then increases: 2014-15 season: $22.5 MM 15-16: $20.8 16-17: $22.5 17-18: $24.2 18-19: $25.9

The Knicks have no chance to get Gasol unless he takes a $3.7M contract to lose. That's not going to happen.

I don't even know about that. If Rose is still on the team I don't think Melo can take a five year deal. It's the same reason Minnesota fucked up and gave Love only 4 years.. They were saving the 5 year contract for Rubio

I'm saying that he will eventually play a 5th year for the Bulls even with the 4 year contract restriction.
