How are you confused?!

You quoted yourself saying something with LTG saying nothing and then told LTG that he was a "hard man to read."

That's just silly

There's nothing wrong with taking the money. Melo's mistake was publicly stating "it's not about the money now. It's about winning championships" (or something to that effect). That is why he is getting backlash.
He was wrong for saying that but I never believed him. Technically if it truly was not about the money the money he could simply sign for league minimum. I think winning is important to the guy but I think money is more important. If you watch him play the guy competes and rarely misses games. He is the only reason anyone even watches the Knicks. If he were the bum that some portray contending teams would not have been lining up to get him. This move means he will probably never win anything.

If it was truly about winning championships and not about money, why would he go to the Bulls? Just team with Lebron and you have a better chance of winning a championship.

This is sort of tongue in cheek.....

True. LTG was correct earlier. If it were only about championships, they'd all take the minimum and allow for a great team around them. I would never expect them to do that, but to think that it's only about championships is very naive. They have to say that.

Oh, and he gets to live and play in New York. I know people like to say Chicago is a "world class city"; it's nice, but it ain't New York. I suspect people in New York view Chicago the same way people in Chicago view St. Louis.

A veteran NBA player knows the ins and outs of every city they travel to. Stereo-type perceptions are less prevalent among those with first-hand experience.

Probably, but we're more right on St. Louis than they are about Chicago.

Also, don't forget the egos and competitiveness of these guys. That extends to who is making what for most of them. It's not always about making every last dollar, but sometimes it is about making as much or more than certain other players that they measure themselves against.

A Knick at heart

Quote:
Carmelo Anthony has reached a deal to remain with the New York Knicks.

Anthony and the Knicks had been in the final stages of negotiations since Saturday.

Anthony announced the deal himself via his personal website on Sunday afternoon.

"This organization has supported me and in return, I want to stay and build here with this city and my team," Anthony said in a statement. "At this pivotal juncture in my career, I owed it to myself and my family to explore all of the options available to me. Through it all, my heart never wavered."

Anthony was being courted by the Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers. He met with each team last week.

He was choosing between the Knicks and Bulls as recently as Friday, according to sources.

"I will always remember this chapter in my life. In the end, I am a New York Knick at heart," he said in the statement. "I am looking forward to continue my career in Orange & Blue and to work with Phil Jackson, a champion who builds championship teams. Madison Square Garden is the mecca of basketball and I am surrounded by the greatest fans in the world.

If they get Miro done and Gasol, I think they are better off.

They would still need someone on the wing who can create their own shot.

How many championship teams has Phil Jackson built? That statement by Marshmelo is hilarious. He could have just said what everyone else knows. "I didn't want to take a gamble and miss out on $130M. That's why I opted out as early as I could and took the most money that was on the table. Championships are nice but wealth is so much better. "

Indeed.

Not a bad team at all and a definite contender (depending on Roses health) to get to the Finals.

Good size, solid rebounding, big man or men (depending on Taj) who can shoot, defense etc.

Wouldn't be the most flashy enterprise but definitely a very good team.

This Caller Bob will then be an afterthought on some already set championship caliber team when he is about 38 years old and try to make it all about him now wanting to win a championship. I hope he is labeled as the one dimensional loser he is in his push for the HOF.

This goes back further though. The excuse for Carmelo was always that he couldn't win in New York because of how bad his team was and not because he was not getting the job done. He chose New York the first time, and just chose them again.

If he honestly believed that New York was what was holding him down he'd have found some other way to go someplace else.

Will he and Bosh be the only two players in the league who get max contracts to stay with teams this year? So, only two players "took the money".

When it comes down to it he chose money over winning. Not just money a significant amount of money. When he was originally traded to the Knicks he believed that he would play with a healthy Amare Stoudamire. STOUDAMIRE was playing like an All Star player at the time. He never has played with a healthy Stoudamire. STOUDAMIRE has always been injured. There was also talk that Chris Paul would be coming never happened. Until year he has always been in the playoffs. He would have had to take 50 million less to play for the Bulls. I guess it was not the chump change for him that it is for some of the members of this board.

He could have signed a 2 year deal like Lebron.

If he really thought New York was a detriment to his career, why would he jump in on the longest contract possible? Literally everything points to him thinking that he can win in New York.

I have never heard him say that New York was detrimental but it has not worked out the way he'd hoped. I don't think that he will ever win a championship. I differ because I don't think it has to do with playing ability. I think he is a championship caliber player but he has not been on championship caliber team. He had a chance to do it this time but he chose money. He made a choice that a vast majority of people in this country would have made though. Is Kobe Bryant taking substantially less to make the Lakers better no he isnt. The other side of this is the Knicks they didn't have to pay the money. They obviously believe they can win with him.

So the excuses for his lack of playoff success are done. You seem to agree too.

Lets see if Carmelo can lead his team to a championship in New York. I'm doubtful.

What could NY have paid him in a S&T? Would it still be the max? Why didn't they/he go that route?

He would have lost 1 year and $33M in any sign and trade.

Lebron is going to make "new" outside money that will make that Carmelo $50M difference seem like CSFMB change. Going home is going to pay $$$$.

By all accounts the Knicks were not interested in a sign and trade the most he could have got from the Bulls was 4 yrs 73 million that has been reported everywhere except of course this message board. His lack of playoff success is tied mostly to the fact that the Detroit Pistons chose Darko. All of this crap about winning comes down to who you play with. Anyone that expects you to win a championship with Raymond Felton a 35 year old guy from Argentina Tyson Chandler and Iman Shumpert in your starting lineup does not know anything about basketball. These are facts. Lebron James could not do it nor could Michael Jordan. I'm sure Phil doesn't believe it either that's why he has traded two of those guys already. There have been a lot of times that Carmelo Anthony could have complained he hasn't. Throughout the Lin sanity period he was identified as the problem. That is the true origin of Goffs get Melo the fucking ball. That is where it began. It was believed that Melo was holding Lin back. I'm sure that are there people on this board that believed it also. Now that Lin has been exposed they choose to work the championship angle. The fact is the Knicks did get better when they gave Melo the ball and Jeremy Lin has been found to be nothing more than a run of the mill bench player.
