I was reading through the Israel thread and saw this come up. Tried telling Darko last week how awesome this game is, and looks like I'm not alone!


Austria is the best. Buying Civ States is awesome and love the Coffee House.

China is probably my 2nd choice. Great general bonus and paper makers are awesome.

IMU is wrong about Assyria. I've never been them but I assume they suck.

Fantastic game.

Have it and all the expansions, same with Civ 4.

In fact, I have a game of Civ 4 that I've been playing for 2 years.

I've been a huge Civ fan since II on PS1. Starting with 3 I played them on PC. I have a few recurring Marathon games that I play with friends whenever we have a chance.

I've thought about grabbing this a few times (sounded like it performed pretty well on the Surface, so that's a plus)...really dug Revolution on the 360 (I know, dumbed-down version blah blah)...not sure if I need yet another game that would sink giant portions of my time though.

It's my favorite video game franchise ever. Sid Meier is a genius and could probably end world hunger.

I bought a new computer just to get Civ 5. I like the changes from the other Civs. It is a more streamlined version. Also like the city-state addition. Those bastards are tougher to kill than they look, though.

I also enjoyed Revolution for PS3. It was dumbed down, yes, but it allowed you to play a game in one sitting without having to put a ton of thought into it.

Yes, and you can play it over and over without getting bored. I get sick of sports games pretty quickly.

Exactly. My problem is I rarely finish games. I get to about 350 turns or so and just don't feel like finishing it out. The first 200 turns are always the best.

I'll admit I'm stuck on level 5. I can beat it regularly and with ease, but i usually lose pretty handily on Level 6. Do you go into the cities and micromanage their priorities? I've tried doing that and usually just end up forgetting about it.

I do, but I screw myself when I forget to change them back. I'll have a city churning out gold and starving to death and I'll be baffled until I remember to go back into the city.

That's what used to happen to me all the time so I just stopped doing it. I'm starting to think its necessary though to beat the last two levels. What level do you usually play on?

Love the concept of the game, but I've only played Revolution on Xbox 360. I'm hesitant to get sucked into such a great, albeit time consuming franchise. I guess Civ 6 is going to start with you leaving the planet to discover a new world or something like that.

Its been a couple months so I can't remember. Somewhere between average and difficult. On Revolution, I play the 4th hardest out of 5. Some of those really hard levels are impossible.

I've beaten every scenario with each character on the fourth difficulty (emperor). Now I've started the same quest on the hardest difficulty (deity). It can get pretty absurd. For example, It'll just turn to 1800 and Japan discovers space flight. You really gotta be on your strategy to win.

I'm not sure what I found harder in Revolution...getting all four types of victories on Deity level or winning by 1000AD on King level.

It didn't have trophies for PS3 unfortunately.

Sounds like muck ado about nothing...

Id like to get into playing this series, should I start at the beginning with the original or can you go to 5 right away and understand the mechanics , etc?

It aint the six minutes. Its what happens in those six minutes.

You can start at 5. One isn't easier or simpler than the others... probably start off with no expansions though. Expansions add additional gameplay systems that add layers of stuff to understand.

Rogue you can start with any of them and understand it after awhile. I would just recommend playing some of the older ones for fun. Some things are now gone for the sake of complexity, but some of them were fun. For example, you used to have a state religion and you could use missionaries and priests to convert other empires to your religion. It's gone in 5, but it was a cool little game within the game. There are many others too.

One aspect I used to like that they removed is how you could take over other cities with enough culture.

It's not there like it was in Civ 4, where it influenced diplomacy. It was WAY more prevalent in Civ 4. But it is reintroduced in the expansion pack Gods and Kings for Civ 5.

It's not in the original 5? I've been playing Gods and Kings for awhile so i forgot about that. Yeah religion isn't that important.

Trading techs used to be cool too. Dumb that they took that away.

Add City States, Hexagons, and no unit stacking to Civ 4 and its expansions and it would be greatest game ever.

Forgot about non-stacking. Love it. Stacking used to make attacking next to impossible.

Never played it in an electronic version only table top. Can be real cut throat game.
