Well, at least the right guy will be behind the plate Tuesday night now...that's about the only silver lining I can take away from this.

There is no silver lining, you don't like any players getting hurt. What about him and Phillips having the same injury on the same night.

I can guarantee you some cheese-curded-up twat will approach me Saturday to celebrate Molina's injury by yelling about it in my face.

I would hope not, but there are assholes everywhere, even in St. Louis.

The 4-man rotation, they're going to it.

Miller to the pen. Hard to tell if it's "rest" according to Matheny, or if Mike simply distrusts him

Waino
Lynn
El Gallo
Kelly

With off-days July 21, 24, and 28, a 5th starter is not needed until August.

Kelly seems to be a concern. He did not look good in his first start

Might as well start printing the milk cartons with his mug on them now...last time he "went to the pen" he wasn't heard from the rest of the year.

The kid is 23 so you can't exactly give up on him.

If it's an innings thing the reason cited; Shelby had 180 last year and they shut him down for the postseason. He is currently on pace to throw 180 again this year. If it is just a matter of rest will be a litmus test to see how vast Matheny's doghouse is. as RFDC mentioned, it's been a shaky Kelly since his return, if he falters over his next 3 or 4 starts they’d go back to putting Miller in the rotation. Wacha will be out until September at the earliest, that is a long time to go with a 4 man rotation.

I'm not giving up on him...just pointing to the only example we have where he was in bullpen duty...I think Matheny would have thrown Descalso in for a few batters before he would have Miller...in hindsight that directive appeared to come from the top but I can't help but get that same feeling I did then (and notice the rumblings about getting Tulo, as big of a pipe dream as that is, are picking up a bit again).

I understand wanting to get the lefties out of the lineup tonight versus Kershaw, but every time Bourjos steals ABs away from Jon Jay my heart weeps a little bit.

About damn time someone sent message to the almighty cardinals and their ownership of the inside of the plate.

Martinez hits a guy because of poor control...so the best pitcher in baseball spots you a baserunner the next inning.

I'd say that's pretty fucking stupid but that's just me.

Pretty sure it's time to give Mark Ellis the Ty Wiggington treatment.

I hope Donny Baseball is dumb enough to tell his pitcher to plunk the first batter in the bottom of the inning.

Well, sure, some do...but not all of them. Likely the same lot that hates Holliday on a regular basis, so figure that the f- out.

I think he's a phenomenal pitcher. That being said, I think it was at best shortsighted and at worst idiotic to throw at Holliday after Hanley got hit. No one thinks Martinez was trying to hit Hanley, but damn it, eye for an eye and all that noise demands that we plunk one of your guys.

I don't hate him. I love watching him toe the rubber.

There seems to be an undercurrent that he takes attention away from Wainwright. SSS but both my roommates hate him with a passion.

A 2-person sample size is surely enough.
