With Big Frank and Maddux going into the Hall this weekend, it got me thinking as to who will be the next person we see get in wearing a Chicago cap (or otherwise having a big Chicago connection like Maddux)? It could be a pretty long time before we see such an event. I'm not talking about veterans guys like Minnie Minoso or something, but guys who have played relatively recently. The choices I listed are just random off the top of my head.

I don't see Cubs prospects as a choice. Poll is broken.

Ozzie may go in as a manager when he wins a few more titles here.

I went Sale but it isn't a stellar list that is coming any time soon.

As much as I would like to see Abreu go, I think the back issues are going to turn him into Joe Crede version 2.0. If his back holds up, he is the going to have the highest potential.

Sale would be my next pick, but pitchers are hard to read because wins are so important to the voters and its not always the pitcher's fault that they lose or ND.

Well, he's not going to win 300 games, but I don't think he has to.

Personally, I lean to a very exclusive Hall of Fame. But I guess if a starting pitcher is ever going to get in again, we have to reevaluate the benchmarks and the criteria.

The problem with Buerhle is that he never had even one year where you would say he was in the discussion as the best guy in the game. No Cy Youngs, but not even really in an argument.

To me, he's like the Don Sutton of his era. I don't really think Sutton belongs in the Hall. So I couldn't put Buehrle in. Even if he continues compiling 13-14 win seasons and ends up with, say 240 wins and a .560 percentage.

Buehrle does have some big moments though. The save of the 14 inning game in the World Series. The no-hitter and the perfect game. Still, I couldn't really say he was better than guys like Jim Kaat, Tommy John, and Billy Pierce.

Minnie Minoso.

1951-1961...second best AL player next to Mickey Mantle.

Got a late start to his career due to his ethnicity and being blocked in the Indians organization.

He deserves it, and I think eventually they'll get it right. Unfortunately, he'll probably be dead when it happens...and that sucks.

This is a great analysis. I feel the same way. If you weren't Cy Young at least for one year, how are you even a HoF candidate.

He wants to be be anonymous so he is surrounding himself with people who have no idea who he is.

I think he should be in there without a doubt. But there have been a lot of chances. He was part of the discussion when they had the committee to consider a bunch of Negro Leaguers and he didn't get in then. It's going to be tough for him. The one thing he has going for him is the reluctance of the writers to vote in steroid guys. I don't think the Hall (or the writers) want it to be like last year with no one going in.

I couldn't really say Paulie was better than a guy like Jack Clark who nobody even remembers.

I don't think he'll get in- and don't think he should- but he's probably a better name than anyone in the poll above.

I think Sale becomes a HoF pitcher if he pitches for a winning team the rest of his career. The question is, of course, will the White Sox be able to build quick enough to not start being an impact to Sale's record.
