The creamery is good. Best Ice Cream I ever had. When I go there for meetings I always bring a freezer bag and load up to bring home.
Also, I don't know what the schedule is like but if you guys get a free day - Knoebel's amusement park is about an hour away in Elysburg, PA. It is free admission/free parking and you can either pay by the ride or get a wristband and ride all day. They have three good roller coasters and the typical amusement park rides. Plus the food is shockingly cheap (and really good) for an amusement park.

Just had a little feature on them on Ch 2 news. Was that you they interviewed, Reader?
Edit. I guess not. Just read you're not coaching them.

Yup, that's him. Funny thing is that the middle brother(Jeremy - SS @Mt. Carmel) played with my oldest, opened up Sectionals with a 325' bomb & immediately half the park started claiming that he was Jerry (& not the 11 yr. old he then was)

I haven't seen today's game, but I think they all have that kind of power. There are 2 folks up here in Wisconsin that have jumped on the bandwagon, hope there is room.

Reader, explain away.

Is it the "GREAT LAKES" League in Chicago? and they won the State Tourney, thus technically repping the "Great State of Illinois"?

The Great Lakes makes up a few neighboring states, not sure which ones. I'm guessing at least MI, IN, IL and WI. Each State winner goes to the Great Lakes tournament and then the winner heads to the LLWS.

What ab-so-lute joy to watch today! The perfect start to a sports doubleheader (Bears) and to see the leadoff homer just made me able to settle down and enjoy these boys.

I also want to commend this board for its existence, I had B&B on in the background and when Dan found his unique way to lift his leg and whizz I had to PTFB. Maybe the time has come for me to get a new sports talk outlet as these guys are everything that I (and they once) loathe. "As the parent of a little leaguer I'm glad to see they don't..." as if his son isn't trying his best to be just like the rest and emulate them perfectly?

I'll be glued to a TV on Sunday for the next game!

Saw this article, thought many of you might enjoy it or at least read and think about it.

I think, removing the racial context, everything in that article are concerns voiced by most of us here who have recently been involved in little league baseball.

There are middle class families who would find it a stretch to meet the costs involved in travel baseball.

It's that way with everything now. Sports or activities. It's as if they have to start really early and pick one or 2 by 5th grade. Kids never just pick up and play sports in the neighborhood, everything is scheduled and they seem burned out. I hate it and it makes me feel crazy if I don't go along with the program.

Agreed. But don't forget the time and effort costs of practices, games, fundraising, etc.. That's tough enough despite one's income level.

For the life of me, I'm always impressed by the parents who aren't self-employed or teachers and can do it.

I am as well. My brother is a whirlwind of coaching for his precocious daughter. I coach baseball and am gassed by the time the season end picnic arrives.

This is almost too good to be true.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-bas ... ubs-chisox

The 2014 Little League World Series opened on Thursday with the Jackie Robinson West team from Chicago beating the team from Lynwood, Washington by the score of 12-2.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the game drew a 2.4 rating in Chicago on ESPN, which means it was on in approximately 70,000 homes. How does that compare to the hometown Cubs and White Sox? Here's the answer:

That's higher than the average 2014 ratings for Cubs and White Sox on Comcast SportsNet. Through last week, the Cubs were averaging a 1.5 rating on CSN, while the Sox were at 1.4. WGN-Ch. 9 did not disclose their numbers.
Yikes. Though, to be fair, we're comparing one game in a high-profile tournament to a season average for two non-contending teams. Still, I would like think MLB clubs could outdraw the Little League World Series team from their same city.

Jackie Robinson West plays its next game on Sunday against Las Vegas.

How long before a story comes out sharing that at least one of the players on the team is really 16?

Hate the professionalization of little kids' games, but anything that promotes inner-city baseball is a good thing.

Looks like they've run into a buzzsaw of a pitcher. Coupled with the crazy-wide strike zone they're in some trouble.
