Depends. They can be heavier or lighter but the length/weight ratio is limited.

At the level I coach it's -12, not sure what the limit is for these kids. I'm sure RR or others know.

When I coached 13 & 14 year olds about 7 years ago, -3 was the maximum the bats could be. -12 would be ridiculous at that age.

My kid is in Pinto.
8-U.

When is that? High school?

All of the -3 bats are bbcor which is high school, when my son was 13/14 he swung a -5, and it didn't have to be bbcor.

Age 13 is big barrel for everyone (not just travel). LL bats couldn't be more than -10 to -12(-11?) & the skinny barrels are a massive pain for travel kids to go back to. And now the bats are $350-400 a piece.

-5 is only good to 14U ball, not high school.

Facemasks aren't mandatory at any level of LL baseball, but some kids/parents absolutely swear by them. I guess they can take the jokes.

Must be a local rule by me. The umps literally wouldn't one of my kids go to bat without one this summer. Had to wear another kids helmet.

Seconded.

But I think our coach should've left the middle reliever in. 22 pitches means he can't go tomorrow. It'll either be the reliever or the kid that caught tonight (& struggled starting yesterday)

The only time I was ordered to make a kid wear a facemask was when our league admin. sent me a kid late...along with a facemasked helmet.

You have to wear a face mask 12 and under in Downers Grove Leagues. I think it includes the travel teams.

It doesn't include the Longshots.

I'm hoping he's settled down and will come through fine. He missed early, and then started pressing. After the home run he was a bit shook. I thought he then moved to catcher? Either way the catching has been a surprising strength.

I was thinking the same thing, but I'm fairly certain he reached the 20-pitch threshold during the final batter he faced, which means he is eligible to pitch today.

Does not matter, if you go over 20 pitches you can't pitch today.

the threshold is 20 pitches, but if you start a batter when you have 18 pitches, for example, and finish that batter with more than 20 pitches and he's the last batter you face, your count "goes back" to 20 and you are eligible to pitch the next day.

from the little league website:

Rule VI (d) – Pitchers
e. Pitchers league age 14 and under must adhere to the following requirements:
•If a player pitches 66 or more pitches in a day, four (4) calendar days of rest must be observed.
•If a player pitches 51 to 65 pitches in a day, three (3) calendar day of rest must be observed.
•If a player pitches 36 to 50 pitches in a day, two (2) calendar day of rest must be observed.
•If a player pitches 21 to 35 pitches in a day, one (1) calendar day of rest must be observed.
•If a player pitches 1 to 20 pitches in a day, no rest is required.

EXCEPTION: If a pitcher reaches a day(s) of rest threshold while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch until any one of the following conditions occurs: 1. That batter reaches base; 2. That batter is retired; 3. The third out is made to complete the half-inning. The pitcher will only be required to observe the calendar day(s) of rest for the threshold he/she reached during that at-bat, provided that pitcher is removed before delivering a pitch to another batter.

As to the pitch count issue, I'm glad LL has changed the rules...again. I always hated (re-)reading the LL rule book each damn June for rule changes (and considering possible arguments just in case)

As for donating. Feel free to go to Dick's Sporting Goods at 11th & Canal & buy a $20 Great Lakes Championship TShirt. All the proceeds go to the league. Or you can go to jackierobinsonwestll.org & hit the paypal option.

And thanks, thanks a lot. Every little bit helps to keep a park on 107th St. filled with kids all spring and summer healthy and happy.

And yeah, it's always nice to knock off the Jr. Paul for Congress/Senate/WH Society

Reader do those t shirts help the parents get to the games and lodging? That's my concern at the moment. I'd like the parents to be a part of this.

Carl Crawford of the Dodgers is paying for the parents lodging.

The Upton brothers, LaTroy Hawkins &...I forget who else have already paid for the parent's travel & expenses.

Any new money will go toward any other sunken costs of this year, running the league going forward (fall ball starts 9/08 I think), a new tractor, and spreading the ability of other South side neighborhoods to continue their programs in our league.

We actually have invited other leagues that only have 1-3 teams to play in house with us so they can hang on. We've been doing it for three years now. Even when I started with my sons, Englewood, Roseland, South Side, Avalon Park & other areas had viable programs. If it weren't for their inclusion into our in house leagues (not our tournament teams though), kids in those areas would be hard pressed to even field teams, much less play an actual season.

And thanks for asking.

No, Granderson is always doing things for our league & the entire area.

Lloyd McClendon, Lou Collier(Brewers/Pirates), Marvin Freeman(Braves/Phillies/Rockies) have always been around coaching. As a matter of fact Lou's work was on display in the infield tonight & Marvin's was on the mound.

There just aren't many major leaguers around from the south side anymore. But most guys that played in our league come back to help our league. Hell, I've been on lawn mower & diamond dry duty at 7am Saturday with more former minor leaguers than I have fingers and toes.

And when you realize that the fast credit place was one of the only businesses to support our league, it's not funny ha-ha.
