I think he will improve. He won't be a dominant QB, but he will be more consistent, even if he wasn't today.

I agree. While the man might not be a pro bowl player this season, Griese still gives this team the best chance to win. Grossman has proven to be completely unreliable and immobile. There were many things Griese did wrong yesterday, however there were also many things he did correctly. Give him another week and you will find more security at QB.

These 2 quotes prove that point even more. Griese is a veteran quarterback that has started nearly 100 games. He holds the ball too long and makes bad throws. I don't recall either of you (I could be wrong) saying Rex did some good things and bad things after a game he threw 3 interceptions(there have been 5 of those games). Some of you guys wanted to run him out of town before the start of last season and was happy he proved you right in Arizona. Griese was bad yesterday. There was no in between. Throwing a bunch of 5 yard passes when the Lions are in their prevent defense doesn't make you look good. He threw 3 interception and they were worse than 3 interceptions. He threw 2 in the redzone when a couple of scores might have put the game away and he threw one for a touchdown to the other team. He personally lost this game for the Bears. Their defense was outstanding but he kept giving back gifts.

I did not call for Grossman to benched after his first bad game this year and he had played in 19 games the season before. I don't really feel the need to go back through all my posts and find when exactly I wanted Grossman benched but it was not after one or even two bad games. I know for a fact this year that I gave Grossman at least two games to prove he was a better QB, and I am pretty sure that I didn't call for him to be benched after week 2.

He had 3 weeks to prove himself this year and so I don't think I contradict myself by thinking that Griese deserves 3 weeks himself.

Just remember that you jumped off of the Grossman bandwagon at the exact same time as I did this year. You can't come back and talk about it now like it was a mistake. You even changed the name of the fantasy football league because you thought it was over for Rex.

Are you saying that Griese should be benched after this one game?

Griese supporters seems like kind of a loosely used term for this board. I think most of the Bears fans on here have been careful and pretty specific in their wishes to simply want Grossman out. I'd be curious to who is actually a Griese supporter compared to who just doesn't want Rex in. Griese is the number two guy so obviously he would be the guy those people would want to see since it'd be Lovie's next choice. I don't remember any Bears fans on here telling us Brian Griese is world caliber or Superbowl winning QB. However, I don't always read this section so maybe they have and I have just missed it.

You are right Woodridge Ryan. I'm looking for the quote where anyone expects Griese to be a pro bowler. I know I never said it, even though Griese has had at least one pro bowl season in his career.

Nas on the other hand predicted Grossman to go to the pro bowl last year, and I believe this year too. Both of those were wrong(assuming Grossman doesn't find his way back in the lineup). Griese has one bad game after not playing for two years but doubles the amount of touchdowns that Grossman had for the season.

Griese could throw 0 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in a row and still have the same TD/INT ratio as Grossman has for the season.

We however were all wrong about Griese for the past two years and Nas was right when most people weren't calling for Grossman to be benched at the start of THIS year.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the fact that Griese had a bad game and that you can claim some moral victory over all the imaginary Griese Pro Bowl predictions but the fact is that Griese still put up better numbers for touchdowns and qb rating than Grossman did for any game this year in this bad performance.

Griese actually was an upgrade at the QB position and that is sad since this was the first time he played a full game for about two years.

The only thing that people mentioned was that Griese had been to a pro bowl and that before getting injured in Tampa Bay that he was having a good season.

That's my favorite attack/defense you've made on the whole Grossman vs. Griese so far. At least Griese get there on more than one occassion Sunday. (I'm not counting the Bears fumble recovery as one of his red zone appearances). I believe Griese drove the Bears into the red zone three times on Sunday (2 TD, 1 INT).

Grossman drove the Bears ino the red zone only one time against KC and twice against the Cowboys. Looks like he can't even give himself as many opps as Griese to F up in the red zone

Just for the record I mentioned the Bears fans have been good on this board about not claiming Griese to necessarily deliver. I do believe there was a time when I said he would. It's one game. I haven't given up on him yet. However, Green Bay isn't the team I think he'll get it figured out. :?

Griese was playing against a Lions defense that gave up 56 points the week before and a defense Rex has torched throughout his short career. There is no comparison. Hester put the Bears offense in great position all day yesterday. Dinking and dunking your way down the field against a prevent defense isn' really an accomplishment.

Yeah, if only Rex had a chance against a team like Kansas City that is one of the worst in the NFL(or was at that point).

You have to be doing this on purpose. You bash the offense and say that no QB can be successful in it, then you say that Griese didn't play well against a bad defense in Detroit but the bad play against Kansas City was because of dropped passes and a bad offense?

The offense is not good, but Griese played better against a decent Detroit team than Rex did against a bad Kansas City team.

Let's give Rex another season to prove he has what it takes since after one game we know that Griese is not the answer.

How did Rex do against the Chargers who gave up 30 to the Chiefs?

How about we all just agree that both the "G-men" QBs suck and put in Orton so we can verify that he does indeed suck as well? Then we can stop all this silliness and start arguing over which QB the Bears should draft/ruin.

Rick, did I miss the 50 posts of Nas doing the same thing today for Grossman and the past four weeks? This is what you do every week and i don't believe when one disagrees and tells you, "No Berrian didn't drop that ball." I do not think Rick or I are "Griese" supporters. We're just trying to bring you back down to Earth on how you gave Griese 1 game and said I told you so when a lot of us gave Grossman as many weeks as you did. You can't do the same for Griese. Somewhere there's hypocrisy in your arguments today

Good point Matt. I can't take anymore of Nas' "whatever you say bounces off Grossman and stick on Griese" third grade debating style.

Rex was given the benefit of the doubt after his first bad game and so is Griese. Two weeks from now if Griese doesn't play much better than he did on Sunday then it's time to give Rex another chance.

Rex was given a lot of chances to succeed by the coaching staff. There wasn't even a QB competition in training camp. He was handed the starting job for the 4th straight year! Rex was given a longer leash and babied by the coaching staff more than any other QB currently in the league.

Take a look at his draft class and the competition that was brought in against them.

Rex did this to himself, and he has to hope that Griese falters for him to have a chance to get back in. Right now Griese is 0/1 and Rex is 0/3. If Griese goes 0/3 then put in Grossman.

You are overreacting more to Griese's first bad game then any person did on Grossman after Arizona.

So you don't think Griese should be benched, but he's not very good and has no shot of leading the Bears to anywhere? He is a loser who throws his teammates under the bus. They should put in Kyle Orton and fans of other teams can all tell you how much the guy sucked because you know, fans of teams never say anything bad about former players or anything.

You aren't giving him one game but all of this stuff is true and you knew it to be true. For two years you knew Griese wasn't going to be an upgrade even though Griese put up better numbers in his first start in two years than Grossman did in the first 3 games combined.

Every week Grossman was about to turn it around but there is no chance that Griese improves ever so slightly on his first performance of the year without the benefit of being the starter for the whole preseason as Rex was for the previous two years. Griese has played in 100 games, 16 of which were part of a pro bowl season, and another 11 of those had the potential to be a pro bowl season until he was injured, but he is a washed up QB that the Bears were only willing to pay a contract bigger than the one that they gave to Grossman or Orton.

You were fully behind Grossman being benched for last Sunday's game but you knew that Griese would be worthless as a starter.

Am I correct?

Griese is what he is and yes Grossman should have been benched. Griese is what he is. Very few players improve this late in their careers. Unlikely Griese will. Griese will play better the next few games.

I don't get it. Griese won't improve? Griese will play better the next few games?

Those two phrases are contradictory. He won't become a better QB next week, I agree. He will play more like his potential because the rust is off.

We seem to agree on that, yet you are arguing that he shouldn't be given a free pass for his first game.

can we agree on this?

Grossman has a better arm
Griese finds the 2nd and 3rd options
both throw INTs for touchdowns

You got to think that the over is gonna take it because Lovie and Turner are in denial about the problems facing this Offense. It's deeper than just a QB.
