I can tell you that where I worked we didn't feel that way.

But all your posts on the subject suggest you felt exactly that way.

That is my essential point. Police that overstep their authority is nothing new. My problem with this entire issue is that it becomes the cause celebre for people that have racial agendas that they wish to promote. That is what the protesters were doing. Sure there may have been some concern for the victim but shootings like these occur in low income neighborhoods on a weekly basis. The hypocrisy of the protesters, with all of their calls for justice, is amusing because most if asked probably have seen violent acts perpetrated and will refuse to say anything because of some stupid street policy known as no snitching. Rappers have actually been quoted advising people to not snitch. Kids walk around with idiotic phrases such as snitches get stitches.

Police brutality is an important issue and the historical legacy of Racism practiced by the police should not be overlooked. I'm am much more concerned about the forces that led the kid to think he had to steal or take to get what he wanted. The racists forces that deprive African Americans of scarce resources are far more damning than this random act of violence. This Elmhurst Steve guy with his racists views is also insignificant because he doesn't control anything. What is he denying African Americans, a paint job. Donald Sterling and people of his ilk are of far greater concern because they run and control things. They have the authority to effect and the focus on social injustices deviates from what is of greater concern and that is economic injustice.

What motivation do those in a position of control have, to alter the economic landscape? Why would they choose to take such measures?

What posts have I ever made about not liking the citizens where I worked when I was a Police officer? We had no blacks to speak of in town, so that wasn't an issue. Plus, as I have previously said, we had a Watch Commander who hated blacks and made a point of keeping them out of town and harassing them whenever they made their way into town (to ensure they wouldn't get any crazy ideas about moving there). I only hassled people who I felt deserving of it. Good, law abiding citizens were always treated very well by me.

You're all over the place here.

So by your logic, nobody can ever have a strong opinion on here because if they felt that strongly they would quit their jobs and spend all their time going to do something about it. You're a little crazy sometimes.

I'm not talking about the board personalities. But yes, if you feel THAT heated about it, do something.

Sounds like you have enough problems with your local elected officials, I would get back to work there.

You spoke of people like Donald Sterling who have the ability to alter the economic climate and offer opportunities (or deny them) to blacks. How those people are significant because of that power/authority. Are you saying that you are some Donald Sterling type, who had hundreds, if not thousands of jobs to offer and has impacted the economic scene by offering these many jobs to the disadvantaged, disenfranchised masses? Please tell us more....

There have been a total of 20 murders in 15 years and the only person murdered this year was Mike Brown. The protests aren't really about Mike Brown getting shot. They're more about the constant harassment and abuse all around the country of minorities. People have had enough. Also let's not act as if protecting your brother or sister isn't practiced by communities and fraternities across the country. What do you believe the police generally do?

What I'm referring to is the deprivation that is very much a part of what racism is. What makes you a racist Elmhurst Steve is that you wish to deprive African Americans for no other reason than they are African American. Your kind of racist is not of concern because you really don't effect anything. There are a lot of others that hold your views that do effect things. They are not as vocal because their isn't an upside to making such views publicly known.
This is not about landscapes or taking a person with very little values and attempting to transform them. This is about people with values attempting to do things the right way and suppressing what it is they are attempting to do. It's denying them access to things based upon race nothing else. It's not about handouts. To focus on landscapes obscures the argument.

This is a VERY good point.

At the end of the day you still have a cop that fucked up...the looting and protesting has made this national. The microscope and exposure will make it that much more difficult to cover up the fact that a police office put 6 bullets into an unarmed man.

Not advocating looting and violence to raise awareness, but this is where the situation is now.

It's a complete WYC. You don't think the other cops are going to come out and "snitch" that their "brother" shot a guy in the back, do you?
