In the over-80 demo, maybe.

What I don't get is how all these radio executives still fail to understand the basic trait of a successful talk show host: personality. This is a requirement. All of the best ones had it. Sure, it can become annoying eventually (see North, Bernstein, Mac and his absences). But those guys all had dominant several year runs as the alpha dogs of Chicago sports radio. Not one guy currently at any of three stations can even come close to those three.

Exactly. The problem is that station management is hiring young sterile & vanilla broadcasting school graduates like Connor & the Randazzler when they should be looking for regular Joe types who are entertaining.

see, here's an example: http://thegamechicago.com/2014/08/25/th ... z3BVZn62RC

a segment on one of them trying out for the D-League. It wasn't super-hilarious or radio history or anything, but it was appropriately goofy. If this was Lawrence it would've been about him doing an actual tryout and almost making it. Also it would've lasted a whole hour. And included stories of him playing pick-up games against members of his 'tree' or whatever.

Bring in Mac and launch Kaplan.

Kaplan just went way overboard on how "great" and "phenomenal" Hamp was. Kaplan is brutal.

Mac plus anyone would be a great listen on the Game. A 3-man show...nothing wrong with that. I used simple math.

As was proven when he was at the Score, Mac + A Tub of Goo = Ratings.

I don't understand why the station's centerpiece show, Kap and Haugh, is on at 9am-12pm instead of the all-important afternoon drive.

True, but I'm guessing the brass at the Game will wait until they are on a real station before ponying up money that would be appealing to Mac. Plus I think Mac needs some time under the old shade tree to realize a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Short term play would be to bring Murph and Fred in for a three hour lunchtime show... they would be cheap and would love to be on the air. You could even put a term date in place w/ Murph as he is 63 now so he might just want a short term (5 year?) gig until he reaches retirement age. I think Fred and Murph work extremely well together and would be miles above the current offerings at the station. When they filled in the other day on AM1000, I was nostalgic for their old morning show.

I did not like Murph solo, but Murph and Fred, I feel and felt, were a good listen. They canceled out each other's negative qualities, and brought out the best in each other. They would be perfect for middays.

Sunday morning and afternoon was driving around and popped on the stations to listen to some pigskin.

The Game - gambling talk, fantasy, football pregame. Once noon hit national Viking/Pat call
The Score - White Sox  :puker:
ESPN - NASCAR! :puker:

Just being competent has made me a fan.

Nascar on the radio has to be the worst thing possible.

Does the PGA ever do a radio broadcast?

You're insulting CSFMB's Very Own Pete Pistone who works the pits.

PGA has their own station also. I've listened to some British Open on the radio before.

Pistone is a board member?

He posted a couple times about 5 years ago. Don't think he's been back.

I'm still claiming him.
