By all accounts, he has plenty of rust.

TBH I'm sick and tired of hearing about him and the season hasn't even started yet.

His play has not been very good. That is not terribly surprising. He has missed about 2 1/2 years. My issue is that there was this rush to declare that he is back. There was a rush to make him the face of the team especially once Durant backed out and his game is not there yet. The other guys lace their shoes up too. Kyrie Irving isn't a slouch and his skill set is better than a healthy Derrick Rose. The people that are saying that he is rusty are the same ones that declared him to be back. The athletic ability appears to be back as it was prior to the latest injury but his game has a ways to go.

He has a better skill set. Better shooter better ball handler. Far more creative. No way is Rose at 60% better than Irving.

Tim Leger whose thoughts I respect stated a year ago that in 2-3 years Irving would be equal to or better than Rose. Lebron James coming home party was not only or mostly about coming home. He surmised that Cleveland has more talent than Miami. It was about 30% p.r 70 % basketball. Kyrie Irving is a big time talent.

Physically he looks to be at 100% and he doesn't look better. I will give Rose time on this. My problem is that there was this rush to proclaim that the MVP Rose of about 3 years ago has returned. Much like there was a rush to do it during last year's preseason. He clearly hasn't returned to form. Jump shot is suspect and he is turnover prone. I think he will be ok but it will probably be around Jan. or Feb.

Rose will be fine. I'm not going to write him off. My problem has been with the over the top marketing. He was sold early on as a guy that wasn't going to miss a beat. Now you're hearing the talk about rust. I was never concerned about his movements because he's the type that won't play unless he is 100%. I will check for him about 40 games into the season. If he is looking like this at that point then I will be concerned.
