Thurgood called Waddle & Silvy yesterday. I didn't hear the whole call, but he seemed to think that Ray Rice was being unfairly treated because he's black. I would imagine W&S just let him talk and said "OK, thanks for the call, Thurgood."

I didn't catch the beginning today, but I think that was the jist of this one too. Thurgood wanted to discuss it in bernsteinian legal terms and Spiegel was coming at it from the "hitting a woman is evil and should be punished severely no matter what" angle.

I haven't really followed this too much. It seems somewhat amusing to me that in the National Murder League smacking your girlfriend and fighting dogs are considered the worst violations. But according to Thurgood, Rice has already been convicted and sentenced by a court. Is that true?

He started off his call on W&S by saying he's a lawyer, and maybe he is, but he sounded so over-the-top serious that it was almost comical and I was waiting for him to start misusing words Oswald Bates style.

I heard him say to that Spiegel about Rice. I would think that would have been big news, but I don't recall hearing that.

That's Thurgood's style. I have my doubts he's really a lawyer too. If he were, he would likely have pointed out that from a practical standpoint, it's very difficult to prosecute a case like that when the victim doesn't want to participate. But maybe he said that before I tuned in.

And how does it help the girlfriend Rice punched, who is now his wife, to take away Rice's salary for a year?

Thurgood is always good for a few laughs. I'm giggling just think of him and North doing a show together.

Mully made a point that the reason the Raven's may not have suspended him "in house" was that that would freeze his salary, where as releasing him gets him the money owed on his contract. So maybe the Ravens are thinking about Rice's wife's "well being"?
