Does anyone really think Lackey is pitching for 500k next year?

He's said he intends to honor the club option. Weird clause that Boston somehow got in the deal due to his elbow problems.

I think if he takes well to his new teammates, and merits some consideration for a renegotiation by pitching well down the stretch, that would be on the table for him.

He really has 2 options: The abovementioned, or retire.

Im sure once he starts playing in front of the greatest fans in sport, he will reduce it to 250k to play next year.

That seems like a really odd setup, and why would Boston want to trade him if they could have him next yr for such a cheap rate?

Because they got Allen Craig!

Seriously, I don't know why Boston would trade away such a setup, other than the possibility that they think like me and see no way in hell he pitches for 500k next year so they figure they might as well get something for him.

I know he's said he'll honor the contract, but I don't see it happening. As apologist pointed out, if he pitches well and is liked in the clubhouse, he'll get an extension of sorts that will make his pay more in line with the quality of pitcher he is.

That was where a lot of the threat of retirement talk came from. Animosity between Lackey and the front office. One assumes that the animosity towards the STL front office isn't there yet....

Boston was going to dump him... it just allowed them to get more for him

Drew Silva ✔ @drewsilv

Oscar Taveras has recorded a hit in all seven games since Allen Craig was traded. Taveras has also tallied six RBI in those seven games.

AJ Pierzynski hits a meaningless HR for the Cardinals vs Orioles.

Camden Yards is ROCKING. When did the Oriole fans adopt the White Stripes 7 Nation Army thing?

Trevor Rosenthal has officially become Jason Isringhausen to me. I want to vomit whenever I see him in a game.

Come to think of it, I have the same reaction whenever I see Melancon come into the game, albeit for different reasons.

Pretty much all the Cardinals could die in a fire and I couldn't care less if I tried.

Have I said how much I despise Holliday? He's a penis.

Brewers were 19-8 in April. They are sub .500 since. I would like to see Milwaukee make a deep playoff run, but I don't care to hear from SHARK about the TV ratings.

Amen. Couldn't have agreed with the booth's assessment last night...you have the fastball/changeup combo he has and he's trying to trick guys with his curveball...throw gas and mix in the changeup to keep them honest...it's what got him here in the first place.

It's just awkward watching him throwing a curve.
