If you listened to 10 Sox broadcasts without knowing anything about Hawk you'd have to assume he was a 15 year Red Six superstar

I just looked up his stats for the first time. He played part of three years in Boston. I also thought he was there for years.

Harrelson's been known to visit my church as his wife is a Greek Orthodox lady from South Bend. I no longer attend but when I did see Hawk he didn't seem full of himself as you might've expected.

Anyway I agree that if a record-holding stat is given, it should be clear if he's talking all of MLB or Amer. or Nat'l.

Not sure if this counts but no one has ever beat themselves up at the plate as bad as De Aza.

He was also an announcer there for 7 seasons.

Maybe. That was 50% on the pitchers though.

Quentin literally beat a part of himself up.

Konerko is more mental. De Aza stands on top of the plate, as did Quentin so they get HBP a lot. That wasn't enough for Quentin though...

Hawk has to do the ALS Ice Bucket challenge live during tonite's game. He was challenged by bigfan's buddy, Brooks Boyer. Hawk has hinted that one of the three people he is going to challenge is AJ Pierzynski

No one in baseball is having a better defensive season than Alexi Ramirez

Why is any ball hit on a fly to the outfield "hit hard" to Hawk?
Every frigging ball.
Just say one that was a routine fly out to center, maybe 310 feet, and that ball was hit HARD, but we got a man there.
What a goof.

Sort of an announcer combo statement...

In talking about Avisail Garcia in the on deck circle...

[Stone] He is as close to the batter...

[Hawk] as anyone I've ever seen

Then Hawk giggles and mumbles something like "I love it". Of course where this a player on an opposing team, Hawk would rail against it and yell about the umpire allowing it, and then regal us with some story about what Bob Gibson would've done.

No he wouldn't. DeAza and Quentin stood on top of the plate, and got HBP all the time. Hawk wouldn't say anything other than something along the lines of 'thats what happens when you stand that close to the plate'

He was talking about standing close to the batter while youre in the on deck circle

A ball hit 310 feet is hit hard. You're really reaching if that bothers you.

Yeah, standing that close to the plate and timing pitches was always taboo, another of the many "unwritten rules" of the game. I see almost everyone do it these days. Even Paul Konerko who "does everything the right way" stands down there next to the batter.

This is the same situation that caused Ben Christensen to throw at Anthony Molina when he was "on deck".

I wonder if Hawk ever commented on Chirstensen.

I think walkrman5 had it right. If it was some opposing guy doing it, he would tell a story about how Drysdale or Gibson wouldn't have stood for that.

I don't remember Hawk ever talking about the Christensen incident, but I'm sure he understood why he threw over at Molina. I'm not cheering the guy having his eye put out, but within the confines of the game and its culture, Molina was doing something inappropriate.

But it seems like a lot of "unwritten rules" have broken down. I mean, Konerko times pitches right next to the batter. And nearly everyone poses at the plate when he launches one. The culture has changed.

yeah, I think Hawk's honest thought would be "well you dont hit the guy in the face, but throwing over there is justified"

Right. And I really don't think Christensen meant to hit the guy in the face. But it happened. And it probably ruined both of them.

I haven't seen it, but I think he's a bartender. It's not like he has a starring role. Sort of like his baseball career.
