Cubs have quit so it's time to move onto offseason planning. Coincidentally:

Quote:
24-year-old outfielder Yasmani Tomas has been cleared to sign by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reports on Twitter. Tomas, who is aiming to be the latest high-dollar Cuban ballplayer, still requires a grant of free agency from MLB before he can agree to a contract.

Ranking Tomas seventh among prospective free agents, MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes wrote recently that the intriguing talent could draw wide and varied interest around the game. As Ben Badler of Baseball America explained in reporting his defection, Tomas projects as a power-hitting corner outfielder with below-average speed. Though he may not be quite ready to appear immediately in an MLB lineup, the consensus seems to be that he is at least very nearly big league-ready.

Go and get this guy.

Big guns in BoSox, Dodgers, Yankees are out with expensive crowded outfields. Let's go! No excuses.

Maybe in the minors.

The past week has shown we still need hitting. So let's open up the wallet Tommy!

So we would still have it in the minors...

EDIT: I used 'we'. I think its clear I'm slowly reverting back into meatball mode.

Fine, with the graduation of so many prospects he'll help us regain the Prospect System Championship.

Get his signature on the dotted line dammit.

If you want a slow, power hitting MLB ready Cuban corner OF, Dayan Viciedo is available

This team needs no help. They're playoff bound in 2015.

Damn!!!! I thought that was more of a power play on KC to improve facilities....which they said they were going to do. They must have really done something to piss off the cubs. Randazzo can serve a purpose for once in his life and shed some insight into this.

Even Notre Dame does everything it can to avoid being in South Bend but the Cubs are choosing to go there?

Damn, I just went to a South Bend Silverhawks game last month. I don't even remember who they were affiliated with.

So the D'Bags are moving into Kane County? Nice. Reader and I can take in a Touki start next summer. I'll buy the popcorn.

The Return of the Shark in 2016! If this team is good and makes a run for a wildcard and Jeff Shamrzadajaski sees it! he will want in! Not saying the guy will do anything to come back, but 3 years, instead of 5, $60 mill.

MLB Trade Rumors unvieled their Top 50 Free Agents and predictions:
2. Jon Lester – Cubs
8. Russell Martin – Cubs
13. David Robertson – Cubs
18. Justin Masterson – Cubs
26. Jake Peavy – Cubs

Yea, I have no idea why they think David Robertson or Jake Peavy will be on the North Side. I want nothing to do with either. The other 3 would be pretty sweet.

Not sure why they would want masterson. Has he pretty much been terrible the last year?

I would rather have Peavy than him.

Lester and Martin would be fine.

Masterson has pitched both out of the bullpen. I like the versatility. He'd probably come cheaper and he's an amazing clubhouse guy. Total team player model citizen.

The blurb on Peavy said he had an abnormally low home run per flyball rate in SF. That scares me.

Big No on Peavy. That would be a mistake.

Lester and Martin are going to get big contracts. If they sign them both, I can't imagine they would be very active after that.

I'd like Melky Cabrera. 5 year deal seems a little long. Also have to have a flunked PED backup plan in order.

Brandon McCarthy. That list of free agents above is like 80M a year just them. Not. Ricketts cannot make his debt payment. And the dumbass calling B&B was right in a sense. Not that signing Maddon prevents a FA but that his $5-6M is not used on players.

Levine did mention a new Budweiser deal which will pay the Cubs 14 million a year.

What?

2014 Opening Day Payroll: $92M

Off Payroll:
Villanueva: $5M - woah, a spot starter is a FA and for his price one of the best managers in baseball was hired! Great!
Ruggiano: $2M
Soriano: $14M
Schierholtz: $5M
Bonifacio: $1.6M
Russell: $1.2M
Veras:$4M
Shark: $5M
Hammel: $6M

Almost $44 million available strictly from expiring contracts or traded players. Add the $20 million they've repeatedly said was offered to Tanaka is allocated to player payroll. Sure, subtractions must be made for arbitration eligible player raises. Yes, not all will be spent and they'll miss out some guys. Luckily next year's crop is even better. :D

I wish I could speak your language mike. I probably understand you maybe 15% of the time.

Your bite at the apple was the manager. No splash and let kids develop next year is how I have foreseen it.
