My whole life I have listened to Doug Buffone during Bears season....

even if they played terrible and lost, this is how the week went.

Monday- This team is terrible, I have no idea how they can compete v. ___________ next week.
Tuesday - It was so bad last week, they need to work on some things.
Wednesday - If they can fix the _________, they have a chance to make the game close.
Thursday - I heard some players talk about some things and if they really got it corrected, they can make a game of it.
Friday - I am not saying they are going to win, but this game is going to be closer than people think.
Saturday - I have a feeling this team is ready to play.
Sunday - I think if they_________ and ________ they can win this game!

Today during M&H today doug dropped a "They have no shot" and I think the best thing they can do is not take the flight to SF.

The flame of eternal hope just went out! WOW!

Just checked some of the prop bets:

SF to win by 22 or more: +375
Bears to win by 22 or more: +1900

19-1....should be higher!

If Alshon and the TV Host arent playing, no way they can win in a blowout. Best shot they have is run run run control the clock.

It will be back burning bright come the next win. There is nobody I've ever watched a game with who wears his emotions on his sleeve more than Doug. More than once I've seen him with tears in his eyes after a loss.

I was young, but I think I saw Buffones last game? I think he had a pick and ran it in for a Td or passed out before he got to the endzone?

Sound right?

Maybe he retired in 78?

He had 20 sacks one year. Just ask him.

He retired in 1980.
Individual player's sacks weren't compiled until 1982.
I was surprised to see he had the Bear record for LB interceptions with 24 in his career.

I think the Bears needed to beat the St. Louis Cardinals by 22 points to make the playoffs back then.
They did! Tiebreaker rules were different. I think Doug made a big play that day.

Bears optimism didn't even make it out of September this year. You know, for as much as I hate the Cubs and am convinced The Plan will fail, maybe if the two baseball teams can be competitive it can combine with the Blackhawks little run to loosen the strange hold the Bears have. Maybe force them to compete for attention? Wouldn't that be nice? Fire Ted Phillips and wait for the old Caller Bob to croak... might have ourselves a real org this decade.

I would like that too. Unfortunately, it seems that the Score has declared that the Bears good or bad trump any of the other teams, and they will continue to provide media coverage pursuant to what they've decided it should be. CHICAGO IS A FOOTBALL TOWN. IT JUST IS. I don't remember the Bears being all-consuming in the mid-'90s with Erik Kramer. The Bulls were, but the Bears weren't. When I was in 3rd grade, the kids who were into football liked the 49ers.

Chicago will turn on a dime for a winner. The Bears should be ecstatic the Stanley Cup playoffs aren't in the fall. If the Cubs make the playoffs the Bears will be an afterthought, if both the Cubs and Sox make it it'll be ignored. The people want a Red Line series, they always have, the remote possibility of one wakes up those dormant desires.

One of his daughters was a few years ahead of me at Ignatius. His son was at Loyola at the time so we had mutual friends. Then, a few years after my first child was born we were having an early morning breakfast at Wishbone (along with every other parent who has kids who wake up at 6 am) and who is sitting next to me but Doug, his wife and his kids who are about the same age as my kid. The wife struck up a conversation with us and I just kind of laughed that the guy my dad's age is sitting there with kids my kids age. His second wife was MILFY hot and nice. I thought his daughter was attractive as well, but she was older and having nothing to do with underclassmen good dolphin.

Doug later came out of his concussed state long enough to enroll a son in the state's best high school in Oak Park.

The anticipation for football seemed more special this year. The Bulls were going nowhere, the Blackhawks losing to L.A. seemed to stem any further excitement, and with two baseball teams operating their respective plans of futility many of us where saying in mid-July "can't wait for football."

I know its one game, and for a change an opening day loss, and there will be more games. My optimism is severely tempered because I don't believe in this current team's defensive philosophy. That goes from the top down as I look at a scheme that is going to give up big plays because it is vulnerable. Opponents know that if they just stay focused and stick to their game plan they'll get points. Playing shootout with the scoreboard may work in Canada, but it doesn't last in this league and doesn't win in January.

I really like Doug and recommend watching a game with him some time. He's charming and engaging, watches every play, and bleeds Orange and Blue. Just wait until the commercials or half time to talk to him.
