Dan is at least moderately observant from the hints he drops. Services for high holy days and a Passover seder. I had zero religious upbringing myself, just Christmas presents, so everything looks "moderately observant" to me.

I really think Dan is a oddity in the sense that he likely is able to compartmentalize or isolate the weird things he does on radio. That is why he can flip flop, evolve and just go wherever he feels. I do think he has an ability to completely turn off go home and never let anything at work or what he said bother his personal life.

The problem with that is eventually he will cross some bridge where it does all burn down over something he says and then personal life will be affected.
