He's really carrying this offense on his back. Forte hasn't been effective since the first game and the Bears offense has been forced to play with its best receivers at about 30-70% and missing 3 other starters. Despite all of this he has played at a high level and has been primarily responsible for our success. We have been waiting for years for him to play at this level. I believe 8 touchdowns and ONLY 2 interceptions to go along with a 98 QB rating puts him in the MVP conversation. He's on pace to throw 42 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. I wonder how great this offense and team would be if his favorite targets were healthy.

I feel he's a little too game managey. The last couple years, it's like he can't get it quite right. When they are getting killed he holds them together but sometimes doesn't eek out the close ones. I don't think of him as taking the team on his shoulders. It really kills me.

Forte has gone against the Bills (#6 in rush yds allowed), SF (#7 in rush yds allowed), and NYJ (#1 in rush yds allowed.) The Packers are #30. Let's hold judgment on him until then.

Cutler is middle of the pack for QBs. By any measure, Andrew Luck is ahead of him at this point. And I don't think he is MVP either. It is the end of Week 3. We have time to wait on crowning MVP.

I'm fully on board. Count me among those who believe Trestman is the real deal when it comes to getting the most out of the QB position. After his time is done here in Chicago, no longer will Rich Gannon's name be the first one to come to mind when discussing the quarterback whisperer. Cutler's full potential will finally be realized under the tutelage of Trestman.

He's averaging nearly 3 touchdowns and less than an interception a game. I wouldn't call that game managing. He's been impressive.

We're seeing it in Year 2. In years past he would have thrown the ball up for grabs if his 2 best receivers were limited. Instead he's been poised and effective.

No.

He was bad against Buffalo.
He did a good job against San Fran but he also benefited from short fields and the other quarterback melting down.
He had a similar game against the Jets.

He still makes a lot of bad throws and looks to be the same quarterback. It will balance out. He still can't take care of the ball but he's been able to avoid them being interceptions.

Also, he is currently 9th in QB rating. If you are saying that puts him in the MVP conversation, then I guess we can also put Brian Hoyer in it too.

He has a chance to prove himself over the next 3 games. He won't have his opposing QB melting down in every game like he had the past two weeks.

His stats are his stats. 6 TD 0 INT, 2-0 record (both on the road) the last 2 weeks. Nitpik all you want, I will take that 10 times out of 10 in today's NFL.

I said he played well. We can still put his performance in the context of what actually happened though especially in a thread that is saying that Cutler is an MVP candidate.

He is 2nd in the NFL in touchdowns and interceptions. He went on the road against 2 of the best defenses in the NFL and threw 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Hypothetical Jay Cutler may be having a mediocre season but real Jay Cutler is getting it done despite his 2 favorite targets being at about 30-70%.

You are just overstating how good he has been and also ignoring he was one of the primary reasons they lost the first game.

A couple things


I feel like he gets a lot of credit for the SF game when more should go to Marshall. Im starting to worry he only looks good because of great receivers


At the same time, he IS playing well. But he's STILL making 1 or 2 inexplicably bad throws/decisions every game and eventually one or more of those is going to matter.


If he can eliminate the JAY PLAYS he can be a top 10 QB for sure, maybe even top 5 this year

I can see that. At the same time, those WRs have not even been close to 100% since halftime of the Bills games.

I believe that he made 1 mistake in the first game. Sure all his passes weren't perfect but there was 1 clear mistake. He's stepped up this season when he's needed to. He even led the game tying drive against Buffalo.

There can be no great QB play without great receiver play, and no great receiver play without great QB play. They cannot be isolated in 99% of cases. Look at Larry Fitzgerald under Warner and under the garbage they've had after Warner. Look at Marshall after leaving Denver and before Chicago.

Small sample size. I think it would be better to look at Josh Gordon last year for a counter. But again the vast majority of top tier QBs have one or more very good to great pass catchers at their disposal. That shouldn't count against the QB or receiver.
