Did not happen.

Sorry CH. I read that as you saying you had lived in all those states.

May have happened.

Far less annoying douches. Fairly easy boat access. However, unless you get on the water at 6 am the water skiing conditions are absolute dog shit.

Button 48, but growing up we had a house on Delavan. For whatever reason, it used to never attract the attention other lakes got... so we could ski and wakeboard all the time. But 10-15 years ago, after they drained it and tried to clean it, when it came back it started to get so packed it felt dangerous to try to go out and tube or do anything during the weekends.

It does have elephants, and a briefcase full of money at the bottom of the lake though (according to legend).

My favorite lake in Wisconsin is Beaulah... they basically don't let anyone dump boats in on the weekend. So it's always calm, and there is never traffic.

Had a summer camp for about 10 days in Williams Bay when I was a shorty. That's all I got.

And a lovely train ride to Milwaukee.

CEO of a former company built a monstrosity of a summer home on Geneva Lake. I was tight with his admin assistant and basically had free reign of the place a few weekends a year. Sweet ski boat and several wet bikes at our disposal. Town sucks.

I've lived in lake geneva and in walworth. i much preferred walworth, at least there wasn't any traffic. I didn't particularly care for living in either place. i didn't spend much time in delavan although i did go to the dog track that used to be up there once and have never seen a scarier group of degenerates in my life.

Wouldn't the majority of dog tracks attract the same type of crowd overall?

I went to the Dells once when I was 4. I have never returned to Wisconsin. If I want lakes and tourist stuff, I'll drive to Michigan.

I spent a lot of my yute at cottages in Williams Bay & Fontana. I can still remember the little candy store there. The restaurants could definitely be better in town.

The little communities around Lake Geneva, like Pell Lake, Como, Lyons, Lake Ivanhoe, Springfield, et al, are absolutely chilling. Those more than LG itself were the real pain of living up there. They're nothing but cottages, bait shops, and Packer bars. Sometimes the last two are combined. The people who inhabit them can go toe-to-toe with Appalachians for genuine full-on redneckery, no exaggerations.

CH, yes, indeed there is a Giordano's in Lake Geneva.
Also, Delavan was emptied and dredged many years ago. It is now crystal clear and one of the best lakes in Wisconsin.

I'm catching heat from Sarley? Only now have I truly made it at this board.

Can you give me a location on that Giordano's? Because apparently it's so new that neither giordanos.com nor Google Maps recognize it. You must be thinking of the Gino's East inside Harbor Shores. And maybe I'm thinking of another Delavan Lake, because the one I used to pass on Highway 50 east of Delavan was all marshy and gross.

I was there once. My buddy's wife's aunt has a place on the lake. They had the place for the weekend, and invited us over.

It's an interesting town in that it's not really a town at all. There are no city services, there's no downtown, no shopping, no schools, no nothing. It's just a big colony of summer cottages that have been turned into year-round residences. Seems like a weird way to live to me. My sister's ex-boyfriend was from Como. He started chewing tobacco when he was 14.

Delavan is still pretty weedy, it gets worse as the summer goes on.

I stand corrected on Giordano's.
You are just as wrong about Delavan
It is not "marshy and gross." It is clean and beautiful.
When was the last time you saw it?

Any lake gets weedy as the summer goes on with the exception of ultra-deep lakes like Geneva.

I have never been to Gordys in Lake Geneva, some say it is good...but the rest of the place stinks for food. It is really terrible. Been to a few good breakfast places, but after that, unless you are staying at the grand Geneva...its crap.

Even the Pizza I ordered from THE NEXT DOOR pub, to be delivered to the Grand geneva is better than Giordanos...and the Wings at the Next Door are great!

My favorite delivery Pizza of all time was from a place that used to be in Delavan called Paul Revere's. They had an enormous pizza called the "Terminator" which was as beautiful as a delivery pizza gets.

I think the main Gordy's restaurant is okay, the one that's named some Club with a number in it, but then there's also like a little cafe for boaters that's overpriced for what little it is.

The place that seems to get the most love among LG dining spots is that Simple Cafe, but again, I think that's mostly breakfast. There's just nothing the town offers that's better than or different from anything back home. I suspect Lake Geneva thinks of itself as a little too uptown for uber-Wisconsin-y things like supper clubs and Friday Fish Fry (they're wrong), which have oddly come around to being enjoyed in a kitschy touristy way, but at the same time there's not really any local culture to draw from. It's just a bunch of little Greek joints, and not even the sinfully good ones like you'd find in Des Plaines or Evanston.

EDIT: oh, whoops, I was conflating Gordy's Ski Boats with Gage Marine. Neither one is actually in LG proper (former in Fontana, latter in Williams Bay). Pier 290, that's Gage's "club with a number in it." The day I ran around the whole lake (26 miles), I went past it, covered in rain and sweat. I hope I spoiled their day.
