I love Pro-Football-Reference. Sorry, but I just have to mention this one.

There was a game in 1979 when Phipps was 6-15 for 26 yards and 1TD, Payton ran for 77 yards and the Bears still beat TB 14-0 in Tampa.

I think the strangest thing is that we got a quarterback who certainly puts up better numbers than his predecessors but it hasn't really translated to even a marginal amount of extra success. All it seems to have done is protected against the terrible seasons.

I just realized that Doug Williams was a pretty awful QB. I had always had the thought that he sucked in Tampa just because Tampa was horrible but when he came back to Washington he was pretty good.

But, no, he pretty much sucked the whole time.

Payton was fun to watch. I was fired up. They were making a playoff run.

I just don't remember it being that ugly.

Except in the Super Bowl. Didn't he break some kind of passing record in that game?

Yeah. That's what everybody remembers.

He was 18-29 for 340 with 4TDs and 1 pick. Probably the greatest game he ever played.

6th highest yard total of his career.

2 of his top 5 were against the Bears.

Not as bad as the 0.0 rating that Rex put up against the Packers on New Year's Eve 2006.

Too much discussion of a player that has turned out to be doo doo. From the day he arrived Cutler was branded the "franchise quarterback" with all the entitlement that goes along with that labeling. Because the Bears babied him instead of kicking him in the ass, Cutler is what he is today. He's never had to fight for his job, and the one time another guy outplayed him in McCown for a couple games, the Bears just let Cutler start again when he was healthy and it was business as usual. And now we find out from Bernstein's reporting a couple of weeks ago that behind the scenes the Bears didn't want McCown to succeed, and they were upset that McCown's popularity eclipsed Cutler's. What a screwed up organization the Bears are on every level. I'm at the point where I would prefer Halas Hall to burn down and to start over with new coaches, GM and a quarterback. Just give me someone other than Cutler. He will never beat Rodgers because Rodgers has gotten inside Cutler's head that he can't win against him.

I would compare Doug Williams to Bobby Douglass. Except Williams won a Super Bowl and was immortalized by Public Enemy.

Packer fan or not, that was not the turning point of the game. The end of the first half where the Bears moved the ball at will and got zero points due to poor clock management and Bennett not getting into the end zone is what killed the game. The INTs didn't help obviously, but that wasn't the turning point.

It was a bad end for the offense for sure. Bennett needs to be in the end zone or Cutler can't make the throw. Time management (Trestman) was also an issue on that drive.

This is the whole point with this year's Bears team. It is NOT only Jay Cutler. There are lots of players and coaches performing poorly at times.

The whole Bears team is catered for Cutler. Tall WRs & TE to catch his shitty throws, good pass pro o-line to give his slow processing brain time to think, weird "genius" coach to fix his errors, take away defense to give him more possessions.

This mess is pretty much all on Cutler.

It's a timing play. He threw the ball when he was supposed to. It's Bennett's job to be in the right spot. How many costly mistakes has he had this year? I think it's been at least 5.

Who is saying it is only Jay Cutler? He's our most important player so he gets blame when things go badly and credit when things go well.

It's easy to say for any quarterback in the league that it is not only them who failed to deliver. Geno Smith is surrounded by a bad team. That doesn't mean we can't judge his play though.

He did not throw it where he was supposed to since time ran out. Bennett messed up too.

In all of those situations the announcers say things like "You have to throw it to the end zone or out of bounds". He isn't free from blame there either.

Brick gon Brick. Have you read this thread at all? Or this one; viewtopic.php?f=72&t=89585 ?

Many, including yourself, are putting the vast majority of the blame for the 2-3 start on Cutler.

I'm missing the part about Bennett in this.

This is a perfect example of what Dr. Ken and I (and others) are saying. The complaint is always "Cutler, Cutler, Cutler" about everything, when in reality that's not even close to..........reality.

So no one is saying it is only Jay Cutler. Thanks for the confirmation.

I want Trestman and Emery fired because of how they have failed to deliver.

Yeah, Cutler matters a lot and he takes a good portion of blame in all three losses.

Bennett was at fault too. This is the perfect example of what Kirkwood and I are saying. You put some blame on Jay Cutler for a play and all of a sudden people act like you are only blaming Jay Cutler.

That is a ball you can't throw in that situation. That is a place on the field that Bennett can't be in that situation. You can't throw a ball 8 yards when you need 9 in that situation. Are you arguing that it was the right thing to do? Getting points is the most important thing there.

while it's nice and fine and our god-given-right to blame jay cutler, i think we're going to need a new running back next year or in 2 years if they really wanna push it next year.

the #1 thing to whine about in the bears chat, well outside of me showing up, is that matt forte doesn't break tackles. ever. how about when cutler gets knocked out for the season in a week or two and claussen comes in to play ~9 games of 2200yds 23TD/9INT football you can trade him for a running back? or just spend your potentially-high first round draft pick on a RB.... either way, forte's getting to be a bit long in the tooth and i wish we were the team who could unearth a gem like zac stacy. #ImJustSayin..............#TonysDeli
