This. Not sure why it keeps getting brought up.

I think the only reason it gets brought up is everyone at some time decides to forgive and grab a 5 year 500 k contract. Nothing more than that.

Garry meier having a radio show is proof that anyone can do it....

Dahl should get Mac, if just to do sports updates...they can shoot the shit...and it's a cheap ratings grabber...it's how Buzz hooked on with Johnny, Garry started with Steve...Quivers?

Except that Garry already showed he wouldn't forgive when he refused to appear with or even mention Dahl when they were inducted into the radio hall of fame just last year.

She has principles. Or the best blow hob of all time. People forget Garry was a confirmed bachelor into his 40's before she arrived. He is even older than Stever.

Anyway, the reason Dahl and Mac would work is that they are both expert bouncers on a thousand topics. They know how to make conversation and make people want to listen. Does not matter if Sports, politics or mustard belts.

Wasn't Garry's show pretty highly rated when he got pulled?

You do know nobody wanted to listen to Dahl before he was sent to Internet Siberia, right?

bottom line is steve dahl fans are now older than dirt. he's been essentially off the radar for 15 years. his ratings will be horrible.

Wrong demo.

He was on WGN for God sakes. What demo do you think they're going for? And you think Dahl is a draw? You've been away too long.

Highest ratings on the station, I do believe.

It's not unwelcome, but it's weird that Roe Conn won't be in afternoon drive on 890 anymore. I don't think that longevity in and of itself is to be celebrated, because that speaks more to program directors not firing a jock at the first sign of trouble than any innate talent (cough, cough, Boers and Bernstein), but he did have a very strong run with Garry Meier and was generally able to avoid the worst things about the conservative-talk format. Jim Johnson has retired and Roe has had a run of terrible sidekicks since Garry, a great sidekick but terrible lead. It's probably time to move on not only from Roe, but from conservative talk radio altogether.

I did a free month of Dahl a couple years ago and Buzz was on it.

Buzz is with Steve or was and is also a 20 year AA guy. I mistyped above I meant to say that unless Garry has no balls this makes sense for a big contract.

Buzz is an AA guy? I thought he was Mr. Tequila at his gigs not that long ago.

Buzz is about the coolest 70 year old guy around. He's older than guys like Dahl and Brandmeier but still seems more in touch

Morning drive is one of the most important timeslots, and Dahl's show on Jack FM was one of the lowest rated in the city. He was drawing The Game type numbers.

Everything you wrote is true.

And I'm still looking forward to it.

What does that say about what's out there?

I have exactly the same feelings as Dr. Ken on this. I will listen and hope for the best. I will give it some time to work.

I say this knowing how bad Dahl towards the end of his last run on terrestrial radio. I was as big as a Dahl fan as there was out there growing up. I remember even as an 5th grader listening to his Satan in studio bits during the Halloween season.

So I will absolutely give it a shot. If I get the guy who now talks about his golf game after spending a lifetime decrying the sport, I'm out. If he surrounds himself with a team like Dave Mc Bride and Joy Masada again, I'm gone.

I don't want him in studio with Mac. I want him with some young, hungry co host who will push him to be great again. I've seen him to happy to accept a paycheck.

There is no official confirmation yet on Steve Dahl's joining WLS-AM and Cumulus' involvement with the Dahlcast. (There's more to the story, too.) When there is confirmation, I'll be happy to give my take on the subject.

It won't be long until my children view my radio listening habits the same way I viewed my dad's when he told me Wally Phillips was the person everyone listened to when he was in college. In fact, my youngest already has asked me why I listen to stupid Howard Stern.

I'm shocked that Dahl is only 59. He looks like he's about 70, and he's looked that way for about 10 years.

He sounds about 70 as well.

I haven't heard him in 6 years which means he was already sounding like an old man when he was 53. His wife seemed even older. That's inexcusable for that age. They seemed like a couple of old retirees talking about going down to Florida when it got cold, what they did with their grandchildren that weekend and how well they played at the country club. Maybe that is enjoyable shit but I don't want to hear about it on the radio.

Yeah skinny, sober Dahl doesn't seem like it will end well, but you have to give it a try. Tried the podcast a few times and thought it was unlistenable. The sheer amount of dead air was astonishing. It's too bad Meier is out--that one impromptu reunion show they did was really good. Either way the synergistic possibilities with Tommy Skillethead boggle the mind.
