The first half comes out in a week. I don't intend to pay a thing for it.

I changed my mind; I'll pay 50 pence.

i'll download it for free and buy a copy of the cd when it comes out. that's what i did with yankee hotel foxtrot.

am i the only one out there that still likes cds? i buy the cd, then rip it to my hard drive. i like to have an official physical copy and like lay on the couch and read the liner notes while listening to the album.

i'm 33. am i part of the last generation to do this?

I enjoy having something tangible as well, but it's hard to resist the ease of a digital copy.

As of right now you can order the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows, and be emailed an mp3 activation code on October 10th. You may also opt to order a "discbox" version of the album that will arrive on or before December 3rd. The discbox includes the album on CD, two 12" vinyl also containing the album and an enhanced CD containing more songs and artwork. The catch? Absolutely none - there isn't even a set price for the digital download-only version of the album. You pay what you think the album is worth. Read more at InRainbows.com and order your album immediately.

problem is, the discbox is expensive and only available through their website....

Mope, I only do that with about 4 bands. the rest has been d/l for the past seven years or so...

as time goes on, my list of "must buy physical copy" bands are dwindling. as stink wrote, the ease of a d/l copy is hard to pass up. moreover, space for more cds is becoming less and less with every shitty cd i buy.

Loveless is great, as is Portishead's Dummy.

New Radiohead in like 16 hours!

Not quite sure what you are referring to Doug, but here are some of the groups I like that may fall into the categories of noisy or use lots of effects.

Explosions in the Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Sunn o)))
Fantomas
Merzbow
Sigur Ros

Thom Yorke's nasaly whimper drives me up a wall and I find the music itself to be boring and lacking substance. I know I am in the minority when it comes to Radiohead - and I'm ok with that.

Portishead kicks ass. What the hell happened to them. Ever since I bought the Roseland NYC live cd in like 1998 I haven't heard a peep from them.

I think they went on to do other projects, but are reportedly working on a new album. I have mixed feelings on this if it's true. I like the two Portishead albums, but there's only so much you can do with really niche-y subgenres like shoegaze, trip-hop, and whatever the hell The Go! Team does. You generally can't get a good third album out of bands like that.

Oh, and this is a really dull Radiohead album. Hail to the Thief was better. The Eraser was better. Bodysong was better.

Radiohead's not exactly a band you can explain to someone and be like "No you're just not listening to it right!". It's there for you to enjoy or to hate. I guess a lot of music is though...we all have ears, but we hear differently.

I personally love Radiohead, and have since Pablo Honey. I enjoy bands that push themselves creatively and do strange things, and fuck with their audience a bit, to test them. I was one of the very few who thought "Kid A" was awesome from the first listen, and then a bunch of people gradually let it grow on them; I loved "Amnesiac", "Hail to the Thief" was pretty cool.

Radiohead lets me revel in pretension...and afterward, I will listen to something that will get me back down to earth.

That's just it for me. It seems like a lot of people (I'm not accusing anyone in this thread in particular of this, most of you seem like avid fans) seem to say that they like Radiohead just because they think it will impress people.

Any idea of other bands/projects that blonde lead singer was a part of? She has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard. Although the lead singer for Morcheeba is probably my favorite. She could be ugly as hell but I still would because of that voice. They broke up too didn't they?

Beth Gibbons, and she's had one solo album, Out of Season.

nothing i listen to impresses people  i gave that up...

i get kind of rubbed the wrong way when indiewhores only list the most obscure bands ever when speaking of their "favorites". That's what I think is people trying to hard to impress. Like "Well, my favorite bands are 'Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah' and Animal Collective."

Same thing with books, mostly authors...

On a different side of that coin, I get aggravated when people think the same thing about me, yet a few of my favorite bands have sold millions of records. I had friends in college that were convinced that I didn't actually like Ween, that I only did for "shock value".
