Anybody done this? Could I still watch the Blackhawks? Is it easy? I'm of low tech intelligence so I don't think I could handle a lot of issues.

Any sporting event or TV show is available online. But the picture quality and size and convenience will not come close to cable/satellite. It's a trade off.

Not worth it if you like live sports.

Quality would suck compared to blasting it on the big screen.

Maybe the best advice is to go to basic cable and stream the some of the other channels. It gets too complicated though. I have WOW cable and pay 98 dollars a month for internet/cable (not basic),1 dvr and 1 box.

Well that sucks. We have things bundled but it's too high. Don't know how to get it down.

Its not ready yet

I just got cable recently. I tried to make it work with streaming. You just cant do it without missing sports.

If you can give up sports though, it can be done

You can still watch HBO on HBOGO provided you know someone who will let you use their info. You can even offer to pay for whatever HBO costs them.

If you have a great internet connection it can be done.

You can get sports with MLB.tv, NHL Gamecenter, NFL Gamepass, NBA Gametime.

Not live local sports.

When are replays available of the local games? Are they unlocked instantly once the game is finished?

I'm embarassed to admit what I pay for cable and internet bundled with Time Warner but I got a
thing from AT&T and may consider changing. I am just so set in my ways it will be hard to
change. Also I like the fact that I can get all the Chicago stations in non HD when the Pack
and Chicago play at the same time. I would have been stuck watching that Cincy vs Carolina
OT if I didn't have the option to go non HD.

You can subscribe to a VPN service.

It's nice being able to watch Hawks & Cubs on my tablet.

Plus, I don't have a HoF room or DirectTV like denis & mac so Gamepass works well on my tablet while another game is on the TV.

You're getting close to the cost of cable there though, arent you?

Well, you're getting every possible game. With cable/sattelite that's the monthly rate PLUS whatever Center Ice, Extra Innings, Sunday Ticket and League Pass cost.

That's great, but what do you do when the league throws your team on MLB TV, NBA TV, etc.. and the game is blacked out on the subscription services?

I think it still works. You connect from an IP address from an international location like London where they aren't offered those channels.

I began subscribing to a VPN like two weeks ago so I'm still new. But so far MLB TV, NHL GameCenter and NFL GamePass have worked. I'll keep this thread updated about those special channel games.

But you'd need reliable internet at the vpn, no? Since everything would be routed through offshore. I have 60Mbps w/ Comcast...I feel lime that would be chopped into a tenth of the speed at best.

I never thought of the VPN idea, I'll need to look into it further. I'm connected to one through work, so maybe I can piggy back on that.

Here's the odd thing. You connect through the VPN to log in. Then turn off the VPN and it still works with your fast internet connection.

Cable companies want to make sure they have their hooks in you and "youse can't leave". The new gimmick is sites like Hulu Plus will let you watch current season shows PROVIDED you supply upfront which cable company you pay service to. They charge 7 bucks a month basically to provide the same service you get from your DVR.

Comcast "Live TV" Streaming service does the same thing. For no additional cost.

Is Hulu Plus really doing that now, or did Jimmy get a chain email telling him about that?

So they're available, but just after a delay. How long is the delay?

I've heard things about "Hola Better Internet" as a Chrome plugin to get around blackout restrictions.
