Illinois' college football coaches pay

Pretty interesting to see all the incentives, especially for the small schools.

Carey gets a bigger bonus for winning the MAC and going to a BCS bowl than Beckman does for winning the Big 10 and going to a BCS bowl. $125k vs. $80k.

NIU has $125k to spend on facilities or something this year then

I actually read on an Illini fan board that Boers and Bernstein reported Jim Tressel was a potential candidate.

It's not the dumbest suggestion I have read. That's a toss up between Ed Orgeron and Will Muschamp.

I'm pretty sure I heard that and they were just speculating.

Hey, Tim, when you have the lead...

...and the ball...

...with 1:21 left...

...and a new set of downs...

...when the other team has 1 timeout....

...go ahead an take a knee there, chief....

...that way you don't get holding penalties and have to give the ball back.

You already won the game. Learn to take yes for an answer.

And FUCK YOU for burning Bailey's redshirt to run 5 plays in a meaningless loss if you aren't going to play him.

Go away fast.

Got him 3 plays in a meaningless win today.

Geez Doc. They won the game.

A couple more of these and maybe he will be back next year. :)

It was the Illini series before that one that made me mad. 3 runs and a punt. They were playing not to lose when a 1st down could have ended any Gopher hope. Illini had lost 18 Big10 games in 3 seasons under Beckman but he is coaching "soft".

I agree with you Doc. I couldn't figure out why they didn't take a knee at the end of the game today.

IIRC, isn't Tressel the university president at Youngstown State University. I can't see him leaving there to coach Illinois.

They've won 4 games. That's not historic for them

My sources (better than Bernsie's) tell me Pat Narduzzi would take the job if offered. He was at Cincy with Dantonio when Thomas was AD. Just please not another MAC guy. This was a fluke win for Timmy Lasagna, though I am worried he might hit 6 with Iowa and NU still on the slate.

Narduzzi has already been offered a bunch allegedly. The UConn job got the most attention since he's from there.

Why not a MAC coach? There are multiple MAC coaches out there now having success. Gary Pinkel at Mizzou, Urban Meyer at Ohio State, Brian Kelly at Notre Dame, Jerry Kill at Minnesota, Butch Jones (to an extent, he inherited a mess at Tennessee), etc.

Not sure what Illinois thought it was getting hiring a guy that had 3 years of head coaching experience with his best season being 9-4. Supposedly Beckman was a defensive coach but his teams gave up tons of points at Toledo.

Illinois is not going to get any established head coach to agree to work there so they are going to have to go after head coaches at the mid-major level or high-major assistants. I think Narduzzi is a reach. I think he's going to want lots of money to go to Illinois because he's a hot enough commodity right now that he could slip into a program that is more established and not in such disarray.

Marc Trestman for the Illini!

A lot of men need to be grown down there and Josh Ferguson can run a screen like nobody's business. Their D is already horrendous so he doesn't need to anything with that. It's all there for him.

What is the A.D.'s history? If you find out where he's worked previously, you might be able to figure out the name of a coach or two likely to be on his "short list" of replacement candidates.

Illini fans, don't be too hard on Beckman -- we have a head coach over here in Kelly who's about to be averaging 4 losses per season, despite having great & sought-after talent at his disposal; not to mention fantastic financial resources.

It doesn't matter. The AD is gone too. Illini fans must be rooting for Beckman to lose, right? I still cant believe that Illinois hired him. Maybe Ron Cary is the next Illini football coach?

The AD is quite familiar with Kelly --- he hired him at Cincinnati.

If Kelly can't beat NU at home, with the talent he has, you can imagine what the 'Cats would do to a Kelly-coached Illini squad. Don't get me wrong, NU played an excellent game overall. Anyway, I think Kelly's next step is with the NFL -- if anyone will take him in any capacity.

FL has announced Will Muschamp won't be back next season. Potential hire for Kansas, IL, who knows.

There were more people in my living room watching that game than at the stadium.

The problem Illinois is going to have if/when they fire Beckman is that no big-time coach is going to touch the Illini job with a 10-foot pole.

Whoever has the AD job is going to have to hire a coach at a conference like the MAC or an assistant at a BCS school looking for their first gig.

That could give you Beckman 2.0.

Then three years from now the Illini are right back where they started from. Hiring another football coach.

Look at the bright side, Dr Ken.

Just imagine how much Beckmann is going to accomplish with these 15 extra practices.
