Fuck all that partisan noise. The minute someone is willfully endangering other people, they surrender their rights. Period.

This nurse thing sounds a lot like the Brandon Marshall thing.

Are they trying to lead or is it all about them?

Both involve YAC, because if you catch Ebola, you can YAC up a lot of mucus.

Exactly...Dr. Spencer also felt fine, rode the subway, ate out, and went bowling. Now he's in serious condition.

Fuck this bitch. Civil rights are always a concern, but these people should be voluntarily quarantining themselves when coming back from these things. It shouldn't be a battle.

Yeah, I heard her too. I'm sure the people bleeding from their eyes if she contaminated them would be very upset about inconveniencing her.

Yep. Exactly. Self centered to the nth degree..... She's helped out in Africa, but don't kid yourself, she wanted bouquets thrown at her for it because she's so fucking special.

Just be appreciative that it is not doctors or health care experts managing this situation but politicians, Joe-six-pack types, and lawyers (in order of importance). Because when the puke hits the fan it won't be compassionate and competent treatment that you'll want for you or your loved ones but some professional hack making vest pocket decisions, directing some para-military type who's just following orders, with the fallback "if you don't like it, fuck you, you can always sue us." Remember, hiding your head in the sand is one sure-fire preventive approach, but it doesn't mean you'll see or be protected by the coming kick in your ass.

Common sense isn't hiding your head in the sand. Doctors and health care experts get things wrong. That's why they carry malpractice insurance. No one is indicting the entire health care community here. Only the nitwits and/or self-centered ones who are defying a reasonable cautious approach. So, take the sarcasm and shove it.

The response by NY/NJ was a little bit over the top but there is no reason we shouldn't be doing a pretty strong amount of quarantine for health professionals who CHOOSE to go work directly with ebola infected patients.

Would you feel comfortable if your nurse or doctor had been there within the past week? Would you feel comfortable working with a nurse or doctor who was?

It sucks, because they are important in the fight over there, but this does deserve a higher level of caution than most other things especially in a place like New York where things can go pretty bad pretty quickly.

Exactly. It shouldn't be a fight. I'm sure they are dedicated health care professionals, so I would expect them to voluntarily quarantine themselves. It should be part of their contract when they sign up.

I'd say more than 'a little bit', but I'll agree with the rest of that.

This is pretty much how I feel. She has every right not to be quarantined if she doesn't have the disease, but going forward there should obviously be some type of clause like this written in.

I believe she will get rather ill; that's what all the papers say happens.

I've tried a "natural" deodorant. They don't work.

I'll take a few years off my life to spare others smelling BO.

Just heard on CBS news that the doctor in NYC lied to officials that he hadn't been in public and that he self quarantined. They tracked his credit card, and found out he went all over NYC. And the nurse in question is now defying Maine officials who want her to stay isolated until Nov 7, the end of the incubation period. It's just 1 week. Stop bitching and going on every talk show with the woe is me shit and stay inside for a week. Done.

Bottom line, you work in an ebola area, you get isolated. That should be the expectation.

There is a saying "Doctors make the worst patients". This is one of those reasons.

I'm pretty sure if you care enough about dying ebola patients in Africa to go there and risk your own life you should show more care for those in your own country to limit your contact until you know you aren't a threat. I know it is alarmist, but a place like NYC is the worst case scenario for American ebola epidemics. Residents have no choice and with the high population density, huge reliance on public transportation, combined with a lot of low educated people and a large homeless population it could prove much more difficult to control. A doctor who just returned can miss out on going to Brooklyn to bowl.
