I don't use a real recipe. I'll just buy veggies, chop them up and throw them in the pot. I usually use a combo of ground beef, turkey, pork, or even a little spam. Tequila or beer is good to add, and I will also employ the black bean as opposed to the standard chili/kidney bean and use only green onions. It gives the chili an entirely different look and texture.

Must have onions and shredded cheese available for toppings.

The best chili I have ever had is at Cog Hill after the Eskimo Open. Its really just your chili, and if you ordered it in a restaurant you wouldn't think anything of it. But getting to enjoy that in the Cog Hill clubhouse with a cold beer and NFL Playoffs on TV after walking 18 holes of golf in January, its the best chili ever.

Let me just take this chili discussion to the Assholes at The Jewels for selling CHILI bean soup....they used to sell CHILI...Northwoods Chili. Thick, hearty, solid stuff.

Now they have CHILI in big Letters and then underneath it bean soup, as if in small print. This should be illegal!

it's just watered down CHILI.....

FYI a good quick to go Chili....Potbellys. of course making it at home is always better, but driving around, working, lunch...great option.

Their secret ingredient is over the top exuberance at your royal presence in their humble shop.

Pretty timely commentary here...friend of mine just posted a picture of some Skyline Chili...I see a metric asston of cheese, some onions, spaghetti, and maybe a couple beans...I don't even know how you eat it.

That's what chili was originally. Everything you had thrown into a big pot, so everybody could eat.

We use black beans in many dishes.

I don't like Potbelly's chili, threw it out when I got it.

BF, have you had Captain Nemo's turkey chili? Its really good, possibly the best turkey chili I've ever had. Their normal chili is just as good, just a little richer since its with beef.

In general I much prefer turkey in my chili as opposed to beef.

Best pre-made chili ever. Always have a can or two or three on standby.

Make a huge batch of chili one day, and freeze individual portions. Chili on standby.

I didn't feel like retyping this.

Disregard the stuff that's crossed out, you still need it.
The stuff on the right are edits to the recipe for taste and ease of shopping.

Use a 16oz can of Guinness for the beer.

It's a ton of work but it's really good.
