Last gen I had a 360 and a PS3 and considering I play on average 2 games per year that might've been a bit of overkill. This time around I only plan to get one system, but can't decide which one.

Does anyone have the XBOX who can tell me the pros and cons to having Kinnect? I am assuming I don't need it, but wanted to make sure. What does it do besides let you play games standing up and running in place or whatever? I only play games laying down on my back so I obviously have no interest in using Kinnect to play games, but I heard it has other features as well. Any of those worth putting down the extra $100 for Kinnect?

Usually, it comes down to which system has the exclusive titles, but that's not so easy this go around. PS4 has Infamous and I love that series. But, XBox has Sunset Overdrive coming out, which looks like a game I might love. The other big game at issue is Pro Evolution Soccer. I can get it for either system so that's not the issue. The issue is which system has the best option file. PES doesn't have all the teams and players so you have to get an option file to correct that and give you all the correct rosters and jerseys. you can get the OF for either system, but the guy who does it for Xbox does a much better job than the people who do it for PS4. The guy for Xbox gives you an OF with 100% of the correct info fora ll teams, the PS3 guys give you one that seems to have about 80% of all the right info. Teh one I got for PS3 had all the right club info, but didn't have a lot of the correct international rosters and shirts.

So...

PS4:
pro: Infamous
Con: worse OF for PES

XBox1:
Pro: sunset overdrive, PES OF
con: too reliant on kinnect?


As far as hardware I assume both systems are pretty identical or if one is better the difference isn't game changing.

You don't need the Kinect...I really like it (I use the "Xbox, record that" command at least three times a day) but I did go close to a month without it while mine was getting repaired and the gaming experience was pretty much the same. Where I did really miss it was being able to tune the satellite box and control the volume with the voice controls and my tablet (the Kinect contains the IR blaster which lets the Xbox send commands to various entertainment center devices).

Can't offer a comparison of the PS4/XboxOne...I know lots of people who have the PS4 love it and it has done very well thus far.

I think the PS4 is currently your best choice. XBone may catch up, just like PS3 eventually did with the originally superior 360. If you end up XBoning, supposedly you can get one with the Kinect for $350 in 2 weeks.

Sunset Overdrive getting some pretty solid reviews, but honestly it doesn't look that great. Looks kinda annoying the way you have to grind rails the entire game even in combat. I could see getting sick of that.

Just watched about 30 minutes of gameplay (thanks for being down Destiny!) and it looked pretty fantastic to me...reminded me a lot of Infamous...figured it would be your speed...

yea it gets compared to Infamous so it should be up my alley, but the riding the rails aspect of the game has me nervous. Evidently you HAVE to spend the whole game doing that in order to do well. SO every combat situation becomes you riding back and forth on a rail and shooting. Seems like I might get sick of that really quick.

how's this for timing. Pretty sure my PS3 is dead or on its last legs. 2 of the last 3 times I played a match in Pro Evo Soccer the game froze and I had to turn the whole system off. Sucks cause I am in the middle of the Borderlands new game as well as in the middle of a season in the soccer game. Thought about getting a cheap used one to hold me over, but I would have to start from scratch with those games so not sure I want to do that.

Might just have to 86 the Borderlands game (so far it isn't that great anyway) and make the next gen move a little earlier than I expected.

Just read that the PS4 doesn't support USB sticks! Ok, that makes my decision quite easy since I need the USB in order to upload the Pro Evo Soccer option file. Looks like its gonna be an XBOX One for me.....not too happy about this cause I like the PS3 a lot better than the 360.

i thought they were adding usb support on the big 2.0 update that just came out...

It looks like they added it for people to play their own music, but that's about it.


I'm no tech guy, but am I wrong to assume that if the PS4 now supports some USB functionality its only a matter of time before you can use the USB for other things like game uploads/option files???

You're right...if the hardware is in place, there's no reason they couldn't update the software/firmware to allow USB function like that in the future.

SO ended up getting the XBOX1, but wasn't a fan. So went to Gamestop and they are running a great deal where they give you $125 trade in credit on your PS3 if you buy a PS4. So between my 6 year old PS3 that barely works and the games and add ons I traded in I walked out with a PS4 and Infamous for $200.


Started Infamous over the weekend, another solid entry into the franchise.

Pro Evo Soccer comes out tomorrow, can't wait! The demo is the best soccer game I've ever played.

Got $125 for the PS4, but you have to give them the power cable, a controller, the charge cable and the AV cords it came with. Since I use HDMI I threw thos AV cables out the day I got the PS4 so I had to buy a used one there for $13 to complete the trade in. The extra controller I sold back off set that cost.

Also traded in a few games, but only one worth any money (sunset overhype).

No games with this deal. But, considering the only game i would even consider playing is Infamous (Pro Evo soccer isn't out till tomorrow) I wasn't interested in any sort of games bundle.
