Id love to lose my labor negations like pro athletes players do.

The players gave up what will be an estimated $3 billion in the last collective bargaining agreement.

You would be happy if your union did that? Doubtful.

Its all relative . Our average salary isn't 4.5 million either. This isn't a machinist making 45k a year getting screwed out of 3.5% over 3 year kind of stuff. The amount of money makes a difference here. To Nas' point, thats why people tend to side with the owners.

But that's idiotic. The owner's are just pocketing that extra $3 billion. It's not being sent off to help needy children.

It's still a 50/50 split though. I don't think that is outrageous.

Just a few years ago it was 57/43. You can't really think it's going to stay at 50/50 without a hellacious fight, right?

I really wouldn't care how much my boss was making / pocketing off my skills if he were paying me enough to where I would never have to work again after I'm done playing.

If the owners were saying something like, "we can lower ticket costs and concessions by X% so working families can afford to bring their children to a game", then that would be something I could support, but we all know that is not going to happen. It's just billionaires trying to squeeze more profits out of millionaires. I'm just not sure why the millionaires are the bad guys here.

I would not support anything below 50/50. Not that the owners care what I think.

My guess is that very few companies that large spend 50% on payroll.

People want to be the boss so they never have an issue with ownership. It's why we ignore corporate welfare and focus on individual welfare.

It's just business.

The players don't matter because they make millions of dollars.

That is pretty much the now accepted idea right?

Why do the owners matter when they make billions?

It's just business. It is what happens. It sucks for the players but they make millions so I'm not going to cry for them.

I would love to see the players win but it will never happen. What I would really like to see is a team go under because of a strike. I'm not holding my breath on that happening either.

I think it's because he will get a job elsewhere and when you have an opportunity to make your team better you have to do it

Women!

I guess the NBAPA made the right choice if they wanted someone to start negotiations with hysterical complaints and unreasonable requests.

It's only a matter of time until the negotiating PR tactic of 'the owners are too misogynistic' for her to deal with is employed ... I mean, the race card's already been used with the former Mr. LA Clipper (appropriately), so the next logical step is this one ... I suppose they could make it a combo plate ... the ownership ranks are rife with "racist misogyny" ... I think they used to open for The Clash.

I really doubt that. The race card was never played during the previous lockout, except in minor stories like Bill Simmons saying players lacked the intellectual capital to negotiate with the owners. The "misogyny card" or whatever the fuck it would be called would be much less applicable than that. I can't really think of a purpose it would serve, and this chick doesn't seem to be an incompetent dumbass like Billy Hunter.

A couple players did use the slave owners/slaves comparison during the last lockout.

I thought that was just the NFL that did that. Either way, unless I'm completely misremembering, it definitely wasn't a story.

That argument doesn't make any sense ... the last CBA they would've been happy to get over the 50/50 mark ... slaves at least were valued at 3/5 of their master ...

What are you, the joke police?

I made it specifically to/about Nas, since you asked. This was used in a broader, more fiscal, context. Same church, different pew. I'll be sure to note how often you make some vague comment about Scorehead's classist & racist tendencies or a rooftop reference to compare and contrast in future threads, you grand tit. :D

As far as the racial aspect of siding with ownership goes, it bears mentioning that a good deal of hockey fans were pro-ownership during the 2012 lockout -- overwhelmingly so in the South, of course, but even as much as 50/50 among East Coast fans. It doesn't have to be about race. People are just dumb sometimes.
