Lest there are any who think otherwise, these gems of insight from Tim Jennings:

http://thegamechicago.com/2014/11/19/bears-defense-held-players-only-film-session-leading-up-to-win-over-vikings/

Bears cornerback Tim Jennings said Tuesday on his weekly radio show on 87.7 The Game that the defense held a players-only film session last week in an effort to get all of the position groups on the same page. ...

“Guys just realized, hey, it’s all on us, we really can’t depend on the coaches or any other outside source coming in and helping us, ... We watched film together without the coaches, so we were able to kind of communicate with one another instead of having the coaches telling each and every position." ...

“Some of the checks the D-line makes, we never knew anything about them,” Jennings said. “We never knew anything about it, we never knew why they do it. For them to kind of explain and give us reasons why Jared (Allen) might check this because of a different front and different plays they like to run, now we know all that.”

“It was definitely different. It was the first time for me out of my whole nine years that we actually had a meeting like that and it actually was good so hopefully that’s something we build off of and we continue that,” Jennings said.

Literally no good reason not to launch Tucker at this point.

If you want to try to find something positive, maybe it's that - apparently - at least some of the players either care or are embarrassed enough to try something unheard of in order to improve their chances.

Agree DT. 100% on Trestman and Tucker. How can the DBs not know some of the checks and signals the Dline is making? That is insane.

That would be like a pitcher not knowing the signs the catcher is putting down for him

OK, sure. But Tucker's been there coming on 2 years. What about the first 7 years?

Just sayin', that's not the reason you launch him. But he *does* need to be launched.

But now it's not just idiots like us saying "Mel Tucker doesn't know what he's doing". Now, we have some evidence that the players under his supposed tutelage don't particularly find any need for him.

Its amazing this guy's been through 7 years as a pro, plus college and high school, and whatever else, and he didn't know that before. And he's not the only one.

Says a lot about the coaches (past, present and future,) as well as the players.

Please bear in mind that Hub Arkush thought Mel Tucker was a great hire.

You're drawing from the same pool that left this guy in the dark for 9+ years. He either only had especially bad coaches the whole time, or they are all bad.

But then, there's always "no, he's just a dope" to consider.

The thread title is probably the most oft-repeated sentiment expressed in the last year and a half in Bears talk. Well, except by the dopes who think the Bears have a shot at 8-8. That he hasn't been let go or even rumored to be let go speaks volumes about Trestman and Emery's ineptness.

Is this a Chicago sports site? A lot of the topics seem to be about things other than sports.

Anyhow, I don't know how Mel Tucker was hired in the first place. My cousin in Cleveland says that he had a reputation as a bumbler the one year he was DC there.

Uh-oh guys; the website topic auditor is here ... I guess the jig is up ... and I use that word in a completely non-painter way.

A given 'Chicago Sports Fan' probably has an interest or two beyond the Chicago sports scene; if they didn't, that would probably be a great way to quickly reason oneself into suicide ... speaking of which, have you considered it lately?

Why are D Lineman making checks? That should be the linebacker's job.

i've been saying this since last season, so now that other people are starting to get hip to the truth it's almost fucking passe that now the 'mel tucker sucks' bandwagon has taken a stroll around the perimeter drive of soldier field not that dissimilar from when ron santo's hearse took a lap around wrigley/ville to let everyone click their heels one last time.... FOR RONNIE1

quite honestly i wish they had the balls to prop him up (putting sunglasses on to cover his blank/vacant eyes) with some animatronic-robot-skeleton-type-machine that allowed him to kick his heels (or what's left of them) with a backdrop of neon cubs signs and HEY HEY lighting up letter to letter behind him. santo was the kind of guy who'd hit on your wife right in front of you cuz he's ron santo and that's how he rolled during his ballplaying/i-had-feet days so yeah i think it'd be fitting to give him his victory lap as he was propped up clicking his heels with a flamboyant-n-flashy neon sign going HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY HOLY MACKERAL right behind him while GO CUBS GO blares from some loudspeakers on repeat 1. ahhhh yeah that'd be going out in style and in fact i gotta put something like that in my will, which believe it or not as an exercise in mortality i need to undertake.

that tangent aside, yeah mel sucks. and i've been there fighting the battles and taking the heat by saying mel has sucked from day 1 when everyone else decided to automatically give him a pass last season because "he tried to run lovie's defense with an aging roster that all went out to pasture/stud when papa bear lovie aka daddy left and it was like nobody respected the new babysitter (see "bullet" bob babich) and my favorite thing has to be that one day i was listening to b&b and abbatacola proudly and definitively said that MEL TUCKER DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE FIRED (rah rah rah lovie's defense rah rah rah aging roster rah rah rah give him a chance blah blah blah) and i tweeted at him iike "@amattacola dude how can you go on the radio advocating for mel tucker to keep his job after he oversaw a defensive unit that went from 4th overall with at the very least a near-alltime-record for touchdowns scored by a defense to, what were they, 28-30th ranked?

amattacola addressed me on the show, albeit not by name, that idiot tweeters are saying that he's advocating for mel tucker to keep his job (because evidently saying HE SHOULD NOT BE FIRED =/= saying that HE SHOULD KEEP HIS JOB) and that idiots like me need to listen to the show more closely so i know what they're saying and i dont make mysel sound like an idiot.... basically because bat-amattacola said so and UGH, COMEON SINI, LAST I CHECKED AMATTACOLA IS THE ONE WHO HAS A 50KW TORCH PROMOTING HIS EVERY WORD, SO I THINK HE'S A LITTLE MORE CORRECT THAN YOU.

and i took those hits to my pride, my self esteem, and my overall well being in the name of keeping it real and saying MEL TUCKER NEEDS TO GO BECAUSE THIS GUY SUCKS AT CALLING DEFENSE. if he couldnt whip up any sort of schemes to use the personnel who largely comprised the 2012 bears DEF (altho in retrospect even in his declining-athleticism years HOLY SHIT how much do the bears miss urlacher in the middle to be their anchor/defensive-quarterback/etc?) into being anything better than 28th-30th in 2013.

and now all y'all are coming around even tho it was en vogue and quite football hipster to say "you know i'm really coming around on this mel tucker guy... the defense is firing, look at that second half vs san fran, the jets... mad the facons look like bitches. shoulda beat the panthers. yeah this mel tucker is starting to do some things... #10 against the run FFS!

but then new england and green bay happened and last week's ugh-inspiring ho-hum 21-13 victory have gotten us back to the unequivocal and undeniable truth: MEL TUCKER SUCKS AND NEEDS TO GO. as a matter of fact he's actually a specialist in inheriting top-5 defenses and turning them into 28-30th ranked defenses within 1-2 years. it took him 2 years to do it in jacksonville and it took him 1 year to do it here. this is the second time he's done it and he's becoming exceedingly efficient at it </architectfromthematrix>
