Even more than Soriano's? Or anyone else that's ever played here, for any team?

I'll say No, only because it's football and it's front-loaded. But it will definitely be in the conversation when all is said and done.

He sucks but I don't think it's the worst simply because of how NFL contracts are structured. As far as I see it a bad contract is one which prevents you from making other moves/corrections simply because said contract is weighing you down. In the NFL you pay the obligatory cash then cut the guy, deal with the cap hits, and move on. That's sort of simplistic but that's how I understand it. It would be far worse in the NBA or MLB if someone like Cutler were signed for 5-7 years or whatever; then you'd be married to him for those years unless some other team decided to take on the money, or as in the MLB, take on a percentage of it while you pay the rest.

EDIT: Damn you, Leash.

Since it is really only a 3 year deal I say no.

Soriano is not a great barometer for bad contracts. He actually played Pretty well while here.

Maybe start the list with contracts that are actually fully guaranteed.

It's not even in the team picture. He got a shit load of money this year but the next 2 years are very reasonable. The cap hit can be reduced if the Bears decide to make some of it a bonus. He'll make $30M the next 2 seasons. You won't find a free agent QB with his talent that will make less.

I think I'm at the point where I'd welcome someone with less talent but more desire to win, and a smarter game day QB too.

Yeah, contract aside, I'm tired of hearing about his talent. Kordell Stewart had a lot of talent too.

How do you know he doesn't have a desire to win? Do you think he gets his ass whooped all the time because he enjoys it? Wouldn't a guy that didn't have a desire to win and had a guaranteed $54M over 3 years pull a Lance Briggs? I know he's be bad for most of the past 5 weeks but this is still statistically his best season.

No one cares about what Kordell does with his partner.

Williams was on a rookie deal.

With all due respect, I don't give a shit about talent or statistics that does not translate into wins. The offense sucks this year - why? He is not a transcendent player. Perhaps not his fault, but that doesn't mean the Bears cannot or should not move on.

Contracts aside, I was thinking about posting a poll a while ago about the quickest the fandom has moved from a manometer of 10 where we look at a guy as a franchise saver / hall of famer and ends up at a 1 where people just wish he never existed. Cutler, Rose, and Dunn came to mind... they all managed it in about 3-4 seasons. I'm sure there are others I am forgetting.

There haven't been many big money deals given to bad players. Assholes? Yes.

Ill disagree. He never produced to the numbers his contract warranted. He did ok but .265 25HR 80 RBI's isn't exactly what they paid for and the usurious impact it had on on the ability to make other moves is what makes it one of the worst ever.

The defense has been historically bad too. That's not excusing his play either. The play of the QB doesn't always translate into wins. Ask Dan Marino and ask Matthew Stafford this year. Would you rather have Stafford or Cutler? Clearly Stafford looks like he cares and he's playing hard.

Agreed. He was a good guy and was okay on the field but the Cubs overpaid for him to be great.

Yikes! He's worst in just about every way. He is younger so there is a chance he will get better but he's already gotten $100M from the Lions and he's had the best WR for his entire career.
