Gibson is out. Hinrich is doubtful. Rose is questionable. Gasol is probable. And reading is a skill.

Twitter or not, you're not supposed to start a sentence with a conjunction.

Still waiting to hear from the Bulls about signing a point guard today ... I guess the day is still young. Mike James or Will Bynum come to mind, which gives you some idea of what they must think of E’Twaun Moore; none of that helps mitigate my clinical depression any.

On paper the Bulls will again miss their best player being on the floor. In practical terms, I wonder if Taj being out doesn't actually hurt more in the long run, requiring more from Noah as well as Gasol, whom I presume plays tonight. Who's to say.

Perhaps the Bulls can get to 90 points tonight for a change. Playing the Jazz should help the chances of that. Speaking of the Jazz, there's cheap talk about the Nets looking to unload ... excuse me ... trade AK47 to them instead of the 76ers. I guess things could be worse.

8pm on your Comcast Sports Network ... hot sauce sold separately.

Mirotic is looking good on the offensive end, and improving on the defensive end but has a long, long way to go.

McDermott is struggling.

A sensible title is perfect for this game, as it will probably be the most boring game of the year.

As with "don't end a sentence with a preposition," there are times when starting a sentence with a conjunction offers more clarity than trying to serpentine around some old rule. Think of how many sentences start with "but."

Just think about how many albums Miley Cyrus sells.

It doesn't make it right.

I wasn't actually making a 'Dave in Champaign' critique ... it's Twitter for chrissakes ... it's the modern-day telegram - there aren't any grammatical rules beyond the most basic. And even then those tend to get overlooked by the Mensa members that form the majority of Twitter users. But you get my point. Sort of.

You're extremely upset and bothered with Mirotic and he only has 13 games under his belt. Not only does this much hatred seem undue, but you seem to be increasing your hatred toward him as he is improving. And the improvement isn't being debated...it is widely recognized that he is looking more confident and more able with each passing game.

There is no logic behind your views.

I know you aren't that into the NBA so let me break some news to you... European basketball players aren't known as defensive stalwarts.

You're pretty much making all that up. Mirotic isn't good right now. He's played one good game. His points usually come off defensive miscues. And I don't really care about if all Europeans suck on defense, I care that he does. Because it's not a coincidence that when he played the most minutes the Bulls got blown out and gave up about 184 points in the restricted area. I'm sorry you're poor at analyzing basketball players.

Per 36 Minutes:

41.8% FG, 39.3% 3P, 76.2% FT, 9.7 Rebounds, 2.1 Assists, 0.6 Steals, 1.2 Blocks, 14.1 Points

Or what we would call him if he played starters minutes each game... "good."

6.0 per 36 minutes.

A number that needs to come down, and will.

Carmelo scores the basketball. Mirotic scores the basketball, not as well. Neither plays defense well. One is a veteran set in his ways. One is a rookie that will improve.

Carmelo makes $22.4M this season. Mirotic makes $6M.

If Carmelo would take $6M per season, he would be a welcome addition to my Bulls roster.

But Carmelo's performance compared to his price tag? Pass 8 times a week.

FG% going to come up? Opponent FG% going to come down? He's not good right now.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2277815-nikola-mirotic-and-doug-mcdermott-proving-theyre-too-good-not-to-play

(odd choice of url considering a lot of what's written in the article .... excerpts)

- Perhaps the toughest part of Mirotic's transition into the NBA will be adapting to Thibodeau's defensive scheme. Mirotic has the quickness and willingness to become a good defender, but he tends to gamble a lot defensively in the post.

- Mirotic has proved he's a viable and above-average long-range shooter, but he still passes up open shots on a frustratingly consistent basis. His pump fakes work more often than not, and he's able to attack the paint. He usually ends up passing it away because the defense is able to rotate and close his lane, though.

- Mirotic knows he has to work on that aspect of his game: "I'm playing European basketball. When I see somebody open, I always try to pass to him. I know maybe I need to shoot a little bit more. Coach has confidence in me. That's very important."

- It couldn't be a worse beginning for Chicago's first-round pick. McDermott looks lost most of the time and somewhat hesitant and uncomfortable while on the floor. He's struggling in half-court sets as well, and he's responsible for approximately 21 percent of the team's turnovers when he's on the floor, per NBA.com. Of the 12 giveaways he's had this season, six have been due to bad passes.

- McDermott also has the worst offensive and defensive rating on the team among players averaging 13 minutes or more, per NBA.com. As he continues to adjust to the speed of the game, his defense will improve, but quicker and more athletic wings have taken advantage of him whenever possible.

- McDermott's saving grace has been Thibodeau's continuous distrust in sophomore guard Tony Snell, who is averaging just 12 minutes per game and did not play in three games due to a coach's decision.

Yada yada yada it goes on to say they'll get better, and they likely will. But right now, they're not good.

Being forced to play them now might payoff down the road; one can hope that's the case anyway.
